The coke loses fizz when you dont pour it right. Pouring it from a distance will make it lose most of its fizz. Also bottles explode because of the way the bottle is shaped, it causes pressure and forces the soda out of the top.

When you poured the mentos in the coke it didn't do anything because when you opened the bottles of coke and put it in the pool it released all the gas causing it not to explode
