IMAGINE only eating two foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day - that is the case for 25-year-old Caroline, who survives on a diet of just oats and baby formula. At the age of two, she had her first anaphylactic reaction to crackers and was rushed to hospital - but this was just the beginning of a long line of severe allergic reactions that would eventually result in a diagnosis of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS. As Caroline told truly: It is basically an allergic disease in which the patient can have serious allergic reactions to a whole host of things. For me, my biggest triggers are food, pets and pollen. Caroline's most recent anaphylaxis at the age of 19 reduced her list of safe foods to the oats and baby formula combination she now lives on day-in, day-out. She admits that she used to get so bored of just eating these two foods but when she took to TikTok to post light-hearted videos explaining her condition, the response surprised her. Suddenly, she was receiving suggestions of recipes she should try - and this enabled her to expand her repertoire and fall back in love with eating again. However, she has also been questioned and mocked online, with people accusing her of faking her condition - adding to the long list of hurdles Caroline already faces in her everyday life. Something as simple as leaving the house or socialising with friends requires intricate planning and precautions to be in place - but particularly with the support of her mom, Julie (who she calls her emotional support human) she has been able to face the restrictions placed on her head on. As Julie told truly: I'm so proud of Caroline, the way that she has handled the last several years, her determination to be happy and stay happy. And with that positivity, Caroline is determined to continue raising awareness for MCAS, but also to encourage people to be grateful for what they do have. Finding the silver linings, finding the good stuff in life!

We take for granted eating basically whatever you want when there are people like her and others who can't eat or have to eat the same things like her. Food can be so good and it makes us happy. Think of when you've had something that taste like crap at a restaurant. It upsets you most likely and then when you eat something wonderful you're instantly happy. Over the years I cannot eat everything I want to eat but at least I'm not like her. I am so sad for her but she's making the best of it. I can't imagine anyone making fun of her. Just shows how ignorant some people can be.

I wonder whether she reads these comments. I've scrolled through some and there are a lot of lovely words here. Somebody also suggested she should be sponsored by an oat company and I think that's a great idea. She could come up with recipes and the extra income, I'm sure she could use as having a medical condition usually costs a hell of a lot of money.

I love how you have support, and the support has given you reciepes to try to widen my food choices.
I have food allergies and intolerances. It was hard to deal with at first, but now I just get on with it. My symptoms aren't as severe, but I do understand that it is how limiting it can be.

Whoever commented that she's not thin is obviously jealous or delusional. Since she could eat more varieties of food before her last episode, I wonder if there would be any possibility of slowly introducing them under the watchful eye of a nutritionist.

Does oat milk ice cream taste better than formula ice cream You'd need to make your own oat milk to make sure you can tolerate it well first. (I've never tasted either, but the oat milk version might be nice for a change)

The people judging you are just ignorant and their insults reflect that. They're also jealous! You are beautiful inside and out and people who are hating that! You got this, girl! You are very brave and a fighter!

I have MCAS. I have a port in my chest where I give myself 3 high doses of Benadryl daily with rescue does always say the ready. Once you get diagnosed with ones autoimmune it tends to spiral into many more.

I truly feel for her because I have both Potato and lactose intolerance and it's been so hard! The potato intolerance causes me to be intolerant to other things such as herbs and root plants!

She need to drop the medication and quit the anti nutrient oats garbage, and poisonous baby formula. What she needs is high quality grass fed ruminant meat not artificial garbage.

I have a similar life with eosinophilic esophagitis and another variation of a mast cell disorder. It's hell, but a lot better now, thank god. You have my full empathy.

I'm glad she's found a way to deal with her condition. It must be very hard for her. It would be hard for me to primarily eat oats, I dont find them filling at all.

I'm praying for you to get well. It is even hard for me to think about how hard it is for you. God, please send her a miracle.
