The largest land mammal, elephants have super-sized brains and display incredible emotional intelligence. In this episode of Wild Files, we get an intimate glimpse at elephants' social ties and unique character. Dr. : There is no doubt that elephants are intelligent, VERY intelligent and VERY social. Intelligence is also multifaceted. A big brain doesn't necessarily translate into intelligence, its not just how many neurons you have, its also how they are connected, how many connections they have and what their functions are.

Elephants are such lovely animals. They need all the help they can get these days.
In regards to deforestation (one of many threats to elephants, a wide variety of things can be done to help reduce the rate of it.
One thing that might help would be to keep our wooden furniture for as long as possible. If we replace it with brand new furniture too frequently, the demand for fresh wood will remain. While the demand for wood remains high, loggers will continue chopping trees down in high numbers.
Some of the wooden furniture in my home is over 30+ years old and still in good condition. I have no plans to replace it any time soon. Wooden furniture can last a long time if you take care of it.
Replanting trees and allowing everything else to grow back should be heavily promoted. For one thing, it will help make it more difficult for poachers to access certain areas populated by elephants.

we have to remember that people are killing elephants so they can get money from selling their teeth. the poachers arent the biggest problem here. the problem is the people who are still wanting to buy ivory. if all poachers died today more poachers would just pop up in their place because the demand for ivory is still there. This is a consumers market. but if everyone who are buying the ivories were to commit non-existence, the poachers wouldnt have anyone to sell their ivories to and would eventually stop hunting elephants.

This poaching problem can be easily solved. There are many solutions, from farming rhinos/elephants to flooding the market with fake ivory that is completely identical to real ivory. But african governments won't adopt it, because they want to separate wildlife from cattle

People here are pretty quick to judge and condemn poor poachers but my best are on that if someone criticized them for a form of animal cruelty and unnecessary death they contribute too they'd say don't judge me it's my life blah blah

One thing I dont like about humans is how we believe were the most intelligent beings on this planet. What if theyre smarter than us in ways we just cant comprehend because were too far up our own asses?

i find it very interesting how nature knows that elephants are being poached for their tusks and in turn making them have smaller tusks or no tusks at all, almost as if nature has a mind of its own
reply

The evolving part was badly explained. They made it sound like it was a deliberate process from the animals. Reality is the poachers are purging the long tusks from the gene pool.

The Elephant is the purest beings on Earth as much as a Whale or the Giant Octopus. Creatures big in size but able to have knowledge and work in their own world.
