So you've made a movie. Congrats! But now you have to get people to see it. How you market your movie depends a lot on what your movie is. Is it a massive blockbuster? That means one set of requirements. Is it a small, Indy film? That's a different set of requirements. In this episode of Crash Course Film Production, Lily talks us through some of the history and methods of marketing a film to an audience

Sometimes the marketing is too much. They announce that a movie is going to be made. Then they announce who they got to write and direct. Then they announce who is going to star in it. Then they announce when principal photography starts and wraps. Then the trailers come out, spaced apart so they restart the hype machine each time. Then the actors, director, writers go on talk shows. Honestly, by the time the movie finally hits the theaters, I am sick of hearing about it, and avoid going out. I just want it to be over.

Wish she mentioned Blair Witch Project, it had a viral campaign be there was a term for viral campaigns. It's hard to describe to young people just how different and groundbreaking that was. Also, I never knew there was a movie star named Florence Lawrence; hilarious. And of course like everyone else I want to see Fart Cloud. Perhaps it should star Jack Black's character from Tropic Thunder

This series of film making is nice. However, the presenter talks way too fast and tries to pack in quite a bit within these few minutes. Akin to the school teachers who dictate lessons and expect you to get every single word down and understand it at the same time.

If you haven't seen the 1960 Psycho teaser you should look it up. It's definitely worth a watch. The 2 second clip in this episode doesn't do justice to how sinister and brilliant it is. It rivals the best viral marketing campaigns of the internet age.

Ahh. I've been so fascinated by this series, even though I haven't watched a -theater- movie in years.
This episode reminded of the many, many reasons I stopped enjoying movies.
As usual, Crash Course delivering the goods!

Not every blockbuster is a breakthrough, and not ever indie goes unnoticed by the mainstream. That said, I think Infinity War is going to stick around for some time.

After we made our film we thought we were done. We were just getting started! Now we're 20 months into self marketing. Its more work to market a film than than to make one!

I've watched all of these, but only now just realised how good a presenter this woman is. Such enthusiasm and interest in the subject. Good line delivery, too.

This is such a great video, I make similar videos that are slightly shorter and concise about science and health concepts. If you have time have a gander -

-If critics are raving about your film, people might be interested in. - This woman hasn't been paying attention to the last decade, has she?
