50 Amazing Behind the Scenes Photos of Return of The Jedi (1983) adam: Fortunately I was privileged enough to see the original STAR WARS cinematic release back in 77-78 From that day on, my life changed. To say that STAR WARS has shaped my life would be an understatement. People today will never be able to comprehend the cultural change / effect this trilogy made on peoples lives. They were EVERYTHING to me as a kid and still are to this day. Classic, timeless pieces of cinematic history, that were as well scripted as they were ground breaking. I feel blessed that I was at the right age at the right time to soak up all of the mystery and magic the original trilogy gave us. What a time to be alive. Truly great memories.

i'm tearing up watching this knowing that carrie and peter and so many more have past away some my laugh at me for doing so but watching this brought back so many good memories of my childhood i wish they would not have waited so long to make the ones after jedi and would have stuck to the original cannon it was so much better then the new ones i like the prequels but the newest was a huge let down for me that god i grew up when i did and got to see all of the in the movies

Locations, sets, models, suits, puppets and animatronics is still the way to go if you want a story to feel grounded. CGI is great, but it should be used sparingly, either for shots that are otherwise too expensive, dangerous or impossible, or as an enhancement of what's already on screen (Two-Face in the Dark Knight, Spider-Man's swinging in the Rami-trilogy and digitaly removing Ralph Fines' nose in the Harry Potter films are great examples of this)

Sad thing is few movies to today use practical effects. Of course the current generation wouldn't know a good movie if it came and sat on their face always quick to say the movies of the 80s were ugly. Not realizing that PCs were new and not powerful enough to do high detail generated images that didn't look like the music video for Dire Straights Money for Nothing.

Nice. I got the same feelings watching this as I had when the figures came out prior to the film in 1983. I had no idea who the characters were but seeing Luke in a black Jedi outfit ramped the anticipation through the roof. Thank you.
Btw, the look on Georges face when Carrie was de-robing or covering up is priceless.

Great shots and memories. For the first show in Manhattan I had silkscreened an exact copy of the Blue Harvest Horror Beyond Imagination T-shirt but found no one recognized it. A guy stopped me at Grand Central but thought it was for some Blues Harvest music concert.

Ms. Fisher has stated in some interviews that she hated wearing that slave girl's harem costume inStar Wars: The Return Of the Jedi. because it was revealing and it was made of metal. which she had to wear in 100plus degree desert heat. which was very uncomfortable.

Old-school filmmaking. Still holds up so well today! There was such a great sense of community and solidarity in actually creating something magical in the moment, as opposed to thinking, 'Okay, we'll get the IT guys to CGI it in afterwards in post-production. '.

Love this pictures moment of STAR WARS RETURN OF THE JEDI. We gonna miss probes and sets behind the that's been changed with CGI. The CGI is used may to shorten the time production and cost of the film (movies.

I'll admit that I was never a wars fan in any way shape or form, but it is kinda to see these photos. What I would like to see however is behind the scenes of my FAVORITE wars episode spaceballs

Boy Mark really started to change in his looks at this point. There were already lots of changes in the Empire strikes back but this is where he starts to look old.

2: 12 - they're shooting in the desert, there are crew in shorts or with their shirts off, and this guy is standing there in jeans, shirt and v-neck jumper

Great tribute to the incredible achievement of Jedi. We often admire our heroes but not of the immense talents that brought the world around them to life!

I'm 37 years old. What I still find amazing is all of this took place before I was even born. Next year this movie will be 40 years old.

From that one still of Bib Fortuna at 1: 29, I realised who it was; the underground victim from An American Werewolf in London.
Blown my mind.

Oh for the days of real locations and practical effects. Not forgetting decent scripts, of course. Been along time since we've seen one of them.

I like the details so much, George wore a snow jacket from the Norway shoot of The Empire Strikes Back in the forest for The Return of the Jedi

If only they could have stopped the emperor before he put his makeup on, they had the script they knew what the chancellor was going to do

Wow! Makes you appreciate this movie masterpiece even more. A time when making a movie was a true art form and not just relying on CGI.
