Hello. I have a technical question:
You said the Cm/Bb was a sort of 7th chord. I assume it to be the 3rd inversion of the Cm7 chord. Would it have been informal to write, say -Cm7 3rd inversion- when analyzing this particular harmonic progression?
Could I just add any bass note to a chord with the intention of adding dissonance without changing the chord as a whole?
Thank you

Hi. Mr Gareth, could you give me any tips on how to fill the spaces between chords when playing a song to make it sound full? for example, if i want to cover any pop song exclusively on the piano, how could i fill the spaces when changing the chords without mischaracterizing the song? and is there a topic on music theory that goes through this? thanks in advance.

I was thinking, - my god, Bach was using a b9 on the Dominant 7... so that's where they got it from-. And then you said - for those who think b9 chords were invented by Jazz musicians.... -. Well I burst out laughing. I have heard a number of the older Jazz masters including 'Bill Evans' say that they practiced Bach.... I guess this adds a piece to the puzzle.

I am puzzled on the second chord. I see the D diminished (D F Ab) but then there is a B on the left which I would think is a 6th with C being the 7th. Are you saying the diminished not only applies to the triad but also to the 7th (thus the C dropping to B) as a minor 7? Or am I missing the theory here? Thank you. Douglas Scott McCarron

Wait... how at 2:28 is that a diminished 7th of C? Going off the C-Minor scale, isn't the 7th note Bb? Wouldn't you build the diminished chord off of Bb?
Also, am I just now realized that despite the A-Minor scale being all the white keys... when you'd play the 7th to resolve back to A, you're technically play G# (or Ab)?

Good morning Mr. Gareth. Although I am not a musician I follow your online classes with great pleasure and interest. Watching these classes I recalled Mr. Ken Robinson words over how an educational system must evolve. I cannot leave without noticing how much you two belong to the same visionary league.

Hi Gareth. I have a question about doubling the third of a chord.
I noticed that the first chord in Bach's progression here included the doubled third (Eb). Is this justified because they are more than an octave apart? Does this also apply to major chords?
As always, thanks in advance.

Many thanks for the video. In the example, the chords used to adding colour were full of tension. Which chords for adding colour would you recommend for a joyful or lighthearted piece?
To study Mozart would not help as he uses other techniques? Any ideas or hints for a treasure hunt?

Eye opening indeed Maestro, grazie! I wonder however what this Jazz -Pioneers- would have been doing nowadays if the almighty Johann Sebastian wouldn't have gone so deep into the -mathematical verticality beauty- of his timeless work....
