I know this is an older video and I know that this is going to sound weird but try lighter fluid, like Zippo lighter fluid. I talked to some retail stores while they were removing price stickers off retail boxes for like medications and such. They said they use the lighter fluid to get everything off cleanly without any stickiness left over and it evaporates/dries quickly without any smell. They would apply it to the sticker before peeling it off and it seemed to work great, even on porous surfaces. Odd and I've never had the need to try it but I thought I would throw that out there. :)
Edit: They also said the lighter fluid doesn't stain the box either.

we own a record store so we deal with this all day- here are some of our tricks. goo gone has oil in it which can get under the slick ( the fancy printed part) and stain, what never leaves a ring and is good at removing adhesive is actually lighter fluid or in essence naptha. it can remove sharpie too but is agressive enough to remove color so be careful. the best trick i have is to fix a split on a seam. trick is walpaper tape. its pre scored down the center for your seam and its white so it hides well. glue stick that and it will hold for good!

I once received a big box game (Indiana Jones Adventure Pack) from a private seller, and instead of shipping it in a box, she just attached the shipping label to the box with lots of adhesive tape. Took me half an hour to get it off with some minor damage along the edges of the box. Not to mention the box had already been slightly battered from shipping. In the end I was not really happy with the result and just resold the game.

Just a FYI the part of the dry erase marker that is removing the permanent marker is denatured ethyl alcohol. Isopropyl also works fine if you are careful. I've used both several times on refinished wood, books, family photos, etc when my son or wife gets ahold of the permanent markers. And as you can see from using your dry erase, it doesn't damage the box any worse than the permanent marker did.

6: 20 My experience is that you want to peel towards the edge, not away from it. Start at the edge that's in the middle and peel towards the edge.
Also when peeling, pull parallel to the surface, so the tape folds over 180 degrees. Pulling perpendicular to the surface seems to make it lift the printing more often, because it's pulling away from the surface rather than the opposite direction.

Ronsonol (lighter fluid in yellow bottle) works great and wont leave any residue like Goo Gone. 90%+ alcohol is good for the super stubborn adhesives but care is need when using or you may damage the printing underneath. (Mostly an issue with paper like on manuals or matte finishes, glossy printing like on boxes is usually safe to use the alcohol on)

I recently obtained a bunch of boxed NES games that were exposed to mice in a basement for many years. I would like to clean them in case they have been exposed to disease carrying urine and droppings. I don-t want to ruin the cardboard. The heat from an iron may help with some of this but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Some of this I already knew like goo goo gone and peeling off the stickers slowly. But I never knew about the dry erase method or how to make the boxes sturdier.
As far as the stickers go I hate that. I never understood why they don't just put them on the shrink wrap or use an adhesive that doesn't rip off cardboard when peeled off.

This goo gone crap just ruined my mario kart 64 and mischief makers box! Yeah great stuff!
Why is no one saying that this stuff will create a grease spot.
White areas now have a yellow stain and yellow areas are Orange!
Seriously why is everyone recommending this crap!
Never going to use this s#-t ever again!

Actually really cool video! Not a big collector but it always bugs me when i get older games when theyre pelted with ugly stickers and random markings. Sometimes I can get them off, sometimes I ruin it! If i run into that problem again with a game i really like and want to preserve, I now know how >: D
