The Founding Fathers wrote our Constitution to design America as a republic, a system where the chief executive and representatives are elected, and the rules are set down in a constitution. The Pledge of Allegiance specifically says that we re affiliated with the Republic our flag stands for. I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
