You say the best way to learn how to draw is to practise, right? Bad advice. when taken on its own, of course. You can only ever learn if you know what to look out for. Otherwise, you'd be leading yourself astray, assuming you can lead yourself to learn through practice in the first place!
Only the luckiest few can figure out on their own what they should be looking out for. Rules as an absolute. isn't one of them, I'm afraid. Betty Edwards' techniques involving perceiving lines and edges. only encourages you to be unaware of what you're truly doing. They say that a 2D animator is an actor that acts using their pencil. Drawing is exactly that, only with a single frame. Here is a hint on going by doing this, without going into my self-grown philosophy on this.

This was helpful- a few other things I found helpful: 1) Make a list of things you think might be fun to draw. If you are stumped, just pick up your list and start working through it. These might be things that you can keep coming back to and draw several different versions of. 2) You can draw from your imagination, draw from a photo reference, or draw what you see. Do all three of these in whatever amount and proportion seems best to you. I found after a year or two of drawing from reference, my own style started to emerge. So even though I used a reference, it was -filtered- by my style and became something new, my finished drawing was quite different from the original photo. 3) Most of all, have fun!

Actually, just one pencil is necessary for sketches. It is possible to experiment with different pressure. Less is more. I started to sketch last week. It went well but later I got some fears. I took my sketchbook to a public place and was afraid that people would look and that my sketches would be not good enough to show. It is easy to sketch cups, bottles etc. but I am scared to move to another objects to sketch. I tried to sketch using photos and those sketches were not good. I do some calligraphy too and it is easier to draw letters, because they are abstract. It is similar with cups and bottles. But other objects are scary, especially people, buildings, interiors.

What depresses me is that I want to be a painter but I do not have a teacher that will teach me drawing. Our first project is to do a copy of a van Gogh painting(my group anyway. I want to be taught realistic techniques like in ateliers but I do not have the money to do it. Plus at home, I don't have a room or anything to practice still life work.

You are such an amazing person! Ive learned so much by watching your videos. Please never change! Ignore the negativity, that just means you are doing something good in your life that they must envy of you instead of acknowledging talent and spreading positivity and love.

funny thing is: i've been drawing for almost 6 years now, (i started seriously at the age of 23) and i've been practicing for hours on end, yet my artworks still look the same. which is extremley frustrating for me. and no online tutorials even help me.

Bro! 30 seconds is really tough! Croquis cafe has your 1 minute, 2 minute and 5 minute poses, if you can get all of that in 30 seconds, you could rock the 2 minute and 5 minute, you would get everything.
