Shading helps create more realistic-looking drawings and sketches by revealing the shadow and light of any given scene. For shading, we must understand and observe what we are seeing and turn it into a black and white image in a drawing. Interpreting the scene's light and shadow into different values. It helps to first simplify this process by separating shadow from light. And then move into middle-grey values

Do you think that redrawing existing arts can give you some tips how to improve? When im bored i often redraw arts just to see some results cause it's always nice to see that you did something even though it's not really your work but then i start wondering why did the artist do this that way etc. which i guess could help me think what i have to improve?

I do appreciate what you did in this video. It helped me a lot to understand light and dark in shading. I'm a literal newbie in drawing. I thought before that I'd never be able to understand highlights and shadows, but seeing you do it in a very simply way, I got to gain hope. I'm not quitting! Thank you so much! I love your videos! ------

I've got a fair amount of knowledge on drawing, since I was interested and drew alot when I was younger. Sorta stopped when I'm in high school, lost the touch. Now I'm back at it in university and pursuing my dream in designing. Don't give up on ur dreams guys-- Btw thx for these videos. They really helped me get back on track!

Can I ask? Yeah well just saying! But I am going to ask anyway. I tried to sharpen my pencil (STAEDTLER MARS LUMOGRAPH BLACK 8B) and I nearly waste it because it won't work the way it was supposed to be. It has a very THICK lead, maybe that's the reason why. Help, please. I sharpened half of the pencil ---

I'm just finding your videos today 1/27/22 and I'm super excited to try to draw. I'm 56 years old and I've never been confident at any type of drawing -beyond stick figures-: ) Can you please explain how you clean the blending stump after you've used it? Do you just wipe it clean somehow?
reply

2B pencil hasn't given up on me as yet. But I can see the use of having a drawing kit. Had to use tissue to blend: D. Took a break from drawing and I'm super thankful for your videos. Hoping to get better and start digital illustration! Hope you also have videos on those.

Amazing -! Wish I could show you the sphere I just did! Thank you! I-m exhausted after just 3 episodes and practicing for an hour but it takes time! I just lost my natural nack for drawing/sketching-- I will enjoy to continue learning with you! Thanks so much!

im struggling with the cross hatching technique gonna be honest. does using an HB pencil make it harder or am I just bad at this lol, my lines get too close and everything gets too dark so it ends up looking like a dark shady mess

Instead of the stump, I just rip off the corner of my sketch paper and rolled it up then used it to blend. It worked, but I really do need to get the actual stump instead -
