How Long Does It Take to Get Good at Drawing? SchaeferArt Joshua: About 2 month ago I bulged a disc in my lower back on a job and was out of work. I decided after 2 weeks being laid up on bed rest that I needed to do something besides binge watch Netflix shows, I had been doing tattoo artwork about six years ago and had purchased andrew loomis books to try and learn to draw but never disciplined myself to actually learn the material. So I dug those bad boys out and begin studying also watching YouTube videos and purchasing more books as my interest heightened. I also took up gesture drawing session through croquis cafe 2 times a day morning and night. I am now 3 months in an I can say I have seen a drastic improvement in my art. When I started 3 months ago I couldn't draw anything I was embarrassed with how bad I had become when I was actually decent 6 years ago, still couldn't draw a figure but man could I draw traditional tattoo art. So needless to say I feel alot of people are not actually putting in the time and effort it takes to actually get good at drawing. You need to actually study, you need to draw from life, and you have to practice everyday 30 mins is fine but try and practice everyday. Gesture drawing sessions are great ways to draw and learn at the same time, with basic fundamental understanding of course.
So from a blue collar working cowboy I can tell you if I can learn to draw you can as well. But you must have patience and at least put effort in.

thanks for this wonderful video! i'd been drawing since i was a kid and had gotten good at it towards the end of high school. i was already pretty close to producing semi-realistic drawings but when college came, i lost motivation and patience to create anything. now, i'm here watching your videos trying to relearn the basics and i'm determined to make my best work: ) it also helps that my boyfriend draws well and he reminds me of what i could be if i just persevered!

Just found your videos, and they are great! Thanks for this message; it is such a good message for all of us. I am a teacher, and it has been very humbling to put myself in the position of the -student-. As I learn to draw, I am reconnecting with the frustrations and emotions that some of my students may have when learning a new skill. I think the experience will make me a better teacher.

I am okay with embracing the process, but i would like to know -how long it takes- as reference.
If it takes 3 years practicing say 2 to 4 hours a day then i am in, no problem.
But if it's something that takes around 8 years by practicing that much per day then i would rather do something else with my time like learning a new language.

I am 13 (turning 14) and im planning on learning how to draw. But sometimes, i think that it's too late for me. And i sometimes regret not learning it from a young age: ( I really want to get to know the things that I like. And im exploring on different things. I want to learn drawing and painting. I hope that that I will be able to do it.

i see people at my life drawing class years of doing it they are still not very good after years. i think the idea is sometime better then the skill of the drawing that make great pictures. but look at drawings on a fundamental level basics level stuff. its hard because with drawing your your biggest fan and worst critic.

I've been trying to get better for a while but I've been rushing and I know I've got a while to learn but still I keep beating myself up about it because -it's not good enough-. Ehh oh well I'll improve over time. Art is fun. Thanks for this video!

Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH-S LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On YAHUSHA HAMASHYACH. HE Died and Rose three days later so that you can be forgiven of your sins!
HE Loves you! Come to HIM!

I think you misunderstood the question. What people actually ask is how long does it take to enjoy sharing thier drawings, if you know what I mean. People want to share their drawings. As far as I know people can enjoy drawing stick figures. But they don't want to share those.

Despite your reassuring voice/videos, I still can't help but feel discouraged when I look at the time and effort I put in a drawing only to be disappointed with the result. All of it was for nothing. I lose all desire to try again and be disappointed once more.
