Meditation for Artists - The Automatic Drawing Technique - Proko
video description
I prefer ink, as it feels more permanent and you commit more.
After half an hour you've got a snap shot of part of your life and you are relaxed.
I started doing it around fifteen years ago and they are like finding photos!
I definitely recommend doing it.
I've never tried this automatic technique yet but once it's light I will give it a go.
They reminded me of phone doodles, or the doodles I used to do when we only had a landline. You had to sit in the same place to talk and usually the phone book would be full of these nonsense scribbles. Awesome stuff.

I actually tried that two days before watching this video I was like in my head I can-t draw so I-m not going to I-m just going to let my hand and brain do it-s thing it turned quite interesting and I was happy for some some reason it wasn-t any character drawing but nonstop lines that connected and ended looking like something you can-t make sense of but nonetheless it had character and definitely was quite expressive in its own way so I was like wow that-s unique and different. I found joy in flowing, working with the force instead of going against it. Like Bruce Lee said -Be Water my friend-.

It only works if you're good. Letting all your demons out may only depress you into a huge art block. What I draw without thinking shouldn't be seen by anyone. Including me. It's as if all ugly in the world came together to form the worst possible decisions despite the years of practice and art school and my wish to create innocent and fluid stuff. Trust me. It's not for everyone. There's only one Kim Jung Gi for a reason.

When i was in mid school i was doing something similar but with robots. Shapes were mostly cubic but i was doing it on the go without seeing any final destination of my work. My art teacher was very impressed by that, because it always came out super complex but geometrically sound - lots of geometric extrusions, inclines, insertion and other stuff. I could redo those in AutoCad if i wanted to, i might do that some day.

The best thing to do is never go to art school. You will limit yourself and your creativity exponentially in the long run due to wanting to appease peers and professors. If you have a passion for creativity it will be something that you would spend the rest of your life doing anyway and is never something that warrants a high amount of debt such as student loans.

I shit you not I discovered this myself after taking my first lsd tab. I started feeling distorted and was afraid of getting a bad trip so I grabbed a sketch book with my trusty trip friend and since we was already seeing shit everywhere it got to the point where you could see images on the page before even touching it.

Feels like how to access your introverted intuition (cognitive function Ni) that I feel art school blocks with teaching in too much of a science style with mathematics ect. or more sensing style. When I free-drew I could create but after school it was difficult.

I'm curious, at any point should I actually turn squiggles into a drawing if the image comes to me as I just draw? I feel like I should but I wonder if I'm jumping the gun and kinda killing the point of the exercise

I love this kind of drawing, I have days when I just seat with pen and let my mind relax and wonder. I call it -free style drawing on a rainy day-. It-s very reviling and supricing with effects: )

Very cool! Bums me out though, there's no way I could ever hold a pencil steady in that position. :( I have very shaky hands and I need to rest the side of my hand on the page or tablet.
