with regards to the list of distros they want people to vote for, I think the options they give you to choose from (other than Kali) make a lot of sense. They seem to want to add a modern distro that has gotten a lot of hype recently. Further, since they felt Magaeia represented an ease of use focused distro, they want to replace it with a modern distro with a focus on ease of use. All of the options on that list (Kali discluded) are modern distros that have gotten a lot of hype in the past couple years that focus on ease of use. The only real change I would make based on the criteria they want to choose from is replace Kali with elementary. As for the rest of the list itself, obviously pclinuxos is an odd choice, and centos is a little strange too. But overall I guess I just don't understand why it makes you so annoyed XD It's just a list of distros the site owners think are important.

I've always interpreted the Page Hit ranking as -Distros of greatest interest-, not -Most popular downloads-. How many people are actually looking at Manjaro, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.
I think this is a fair analysis, while considering some potential bias side effects, such as Google Search results and that Ubuntu is divided into the official flavours (personally, I think Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu etc) should be counted under Ubuntu's hit rankings. Also, people are going to click on the top 10 distros more often than the others, due to the prominent visibility anf people are curious about 'what is best/popular'. That kinda insulates the top ranking distros, but you can still see what people are interested in.

I totally agree that distrowatch list is garbage. However, I can't agree about Ubuntu being most popular desktop Linux distro. In the past it was undebatable, however, I really think that Mint can compete with it. Even though it's technically Ubuntu, just with a few extra packages, own default software collection and different DE. And on the servers Debian is far more oftenly used.
I'm saying it as a Linux administrator, who is responsible for making and maintaining desktop Linux distribution in company that I work at, and as an active member of several Linux communities.

Which new distro should be listed as a major project?
Manjaro and Solus.
It seems that they love to add Debian/Ubuntu-based distributions, but ignore the existence of Arch-based distros.
And Solus also should be in the list since it's a totally new Linux distro, has created a new desktop environment and uses a different package manager. Solus it's not a remaster.
I agree with the removal of PCLinuxOS and the possible implementation of Gentoo.
I would remove CentOS too.
Red Hat also deserve to be there.
I would create a TOP 20 list instead of only 10.

Kubuntu: my old reliable. A little boring, but stable. Aside from a few little terminal tweaks, it just works.
Ubuntu MATE: My second fave. Possibly even more reliable then Kubuntu--the only reason I didn't stay there is my preference for KDE
Linux Mint: Tried it a few times. Mom has used it for a couple years. Great choice for a first distro. I like it. but it's a tad heavier than Ubuntu.
OpenSUSE: NEVER AGAIN.
Elementary: Not as bad as OpenSUSE, but too limited, and performed miserably on my hardware. Never again.

Hi, if the list is garbage, don't care about it. Distrowatch do what they like in their own website even if many people look at to choose a distribution at the top of the list and not according to their need. Maybe people have more faith to recommandation of distrowath that their own choice. Linux users to linux users: Look at distrowatch, My distribution is better than yours. etc Keep your mind free even if your distribution is more popular or not. A man who use PCLinuxOS.

Great video! I'm a fan of your videos, I've seen almost all of your videos. I live in Germany, so for me it's very important that your pronounciation is really good for understanding what you mean. I appreciate your views in your videos very much because I think you are really honest in your opinions (not always the case in videos of other persons in the linux world. Thumbs up!

Mandrake Linux was my first distro. in 2002 i needed to move after they killed Mandrake and made Mandriva. For a while i was thinking PCLinuxOS and Mageia could be good and always had a look on them but something was missing. Oh btw, i still have Mandrake7. 1 original install DVD with book, box, poster, pens and writing blocks. It was for free with distro order back in 1998.

Namib GNU/Linux: Close to upstream but easy to install Arch based distro (Calamares) from Franco-Canada. Comes in a handful of desktops and runs - at least on my machines - faster and smoother than Manjaro. So it's more like Antergos without the longloooong installation process. ;)

I'm studying in a French engineering school, that also runs an information security lab. They guys are either mageia (look, it's redhat based and it's french, none of that ubuntu debian bullcrap) or (strangely enough) MS Windows fanboy (in both a genuine and ironic way)
