you should use layers
I followed a couple of courses a photoshop course ofline and couple online and what all of them taugth me was to use layers so you don't edit destructively
In gimp this is no problem, because these latest versions of gimp support these things nicely.

Thank you, really nice video, people keep whining about ps not available but most of them just use 1/100 of photoshop's capabilities. I myself learned Photoshop for basic stuffs and everything I learned could easily be done on GIMP

As an artist...not seeing the path tool used for the cut out makes me face palm. Heh. I know it doesn't need to be perfect for the scale they are shown...but the path tool is more accurate than the lasso.

Compared to PS or paint.NET i find GIMP to be so -... looking for a better workflow that lets me avoid Adobe.. but they are the only good unified environment... but not cross-platform enough for me.

In my personal opinion you should've tuned the hue to be a bit more greener since cmatrix is a bit on the green side, anyways great tutorial, you actually did teach me a new thing! :)

is inkscape better for your purposes? svg format lets you always adjust objects..not the one way road that bitmap editing is, unless you use loads of layers

Thank you! This improved my thumbnails greatly. I had a little bit of trouble finding the font you use, but I font it soon enough, great video!

DT you can use the bucket to fill with the same color instead gradient. It will fill with whatever color is in foreground settings.

Thanks, Derek. Could you do your text part by changing the foreground and background colors for the text when you enter the text?
