Oh hey wanted to say something else:
The idea that someone should be using 1 Linux distro, 1 window manager, 1 compositor etc. to -really- learn the software, is probably not a real thing. Anyone who uses Linux for years and years as their host operating system will tell you: the differences between distros is so incredibly small, you're going to know the inside-out differences very quickly going from 1 to the next. Derek is right also: it would not make for fun content.
Lastly, learning many different desktop environments and configs and shells and terminal emulators helps in knowing more about the other software that you want to have as your 'daily driver.' This isn't graduate-level maths. You don't need to specialize in Linux environments, it isn't rocket science.
(EDIT: I only use Debian on servers and Arch on personal computers, and only use KDE, but that's because I'm not interested in learning about all the different flavors of Linux out there. Just want to have a stable desktop for all that I do, and to learn networking and full stack development. Different goals than Derek entirely.)

Bro if paypal and patreon eats up a significant percentage ....and you donate more, then it -won't prevent- them from -eating up- more money, -actually it's opposite- they will eat up more money. Your voluntarily quitting your retail job right before the virus hit causing them to close, was good timing????
No it was bad timing, if you held off quitting, you'd be getting unemployment benefits while they were closed. Love your vids, but I think you were tired when you made this vid.

-Why do you care- is not an answer that articulates what is -good- about FOSS. Not that I disagree with you on the argument you do state about proprietary software having its problems. If I were a viewer who might not otherwise know any better, taking a positive stance that articulates the value in terms of security, the problems with intellectual property, with programs being sunset, long-term maintainability. Those are good reasons to advocate for FOSS.

Great video, I hope people don't get to you. With full honesty I am in the don't care camp. I understand the open source movement and have no negativity towards it. I am just in the camp of where my computer is a tool. The only thing I care about is how good the software or even hardware is at being tools to perform functions. The ideology behind them does not come into my decision making choices.
Old video but hope you are doing well.

Honestly, for most people, sticking with a single distribution is okay so long as it's working for them. There's a learning curve to software hopping and it and the time you spend configuring it to work the way you need it to is time you could have spent actually being productive with it.

That's awesome to hear Derek works in retail, and is also good at working in retail.
I hate retail and I'm horrible at it. I'd likely die from alcoholism if I tried to pursue a career in retail just to numb the hatred of the job. And that's really something, because I don't drink.

Bruh, you can't be an activist who loudly advocates for a particular cause and makes claims about the ethics of certain lines of action, and then when asked about it (whether out of curiosity or as an adversarial challenge) fall back on, -Why do you care what I think, tho?-

Cool
I prefer free software (because no spyware and its free) but I understand that companies need to do this thing called make money so propreitary software is their only option, they won't make anywhere near enough money if they rely on donations.

2020 hit a lot of people really hard.
Now we're in 2021 and we're beginning to seei supply chain disruptions at the stores.
These are just the early phases towards -The Great Reset-
