s top pro athletes - Knee pain is one of the most debilitating discomforts that you can feel when you're working out, especially during a leg workout. Pain in your knees can come in many different forms. You can get ligament pain usually seen from an injury to the ACL or MCL. You can get meniscus pain that usually results in a knee that gives out or locks unexpectedly. You can also get arthritic changes to the surfaces of the bones in the joint that makes movement difficult. That said, the most common cause of knee pain in those working out is patellofemoral or patellar tracking dysfunction. In this video, I show you the root cause of the knee pain and more importantly, how to fix the pain. There are many exercises for knee pain but if the ones you're doing are only focusing on the quads and the muscles around the knee, then you're not looking at the complete picture. Most pains are caused by dysfunction at joints above or below the site of the pain. In the case of the knee, you have to look up to the hip or down to the ankle for the real cause of the pain. Patellofemoral exercises are usually the focus of treatment for knee pain. They even are considered the best workout for knee pain. That's a mistake. There's more to getting rid of knee soreness than just working on that VMO. Knee pain on squats is common when there are tracking issues in the kneecap. Most often, weak hips (glute medius exactly) cause the femur to track incorrectly. You want to do exercises for knee pain that strengthen your glutes. I show you the easiest and best way to do this so you can start fixing your knee discomfort and soreness starting now. For a more comprehensive treatment for knee pain, you may want to

I'm not a weight lifter and I dont have knee pain per say but my knee clicks bit when walking, going up and down stairs, and extending it. It doesnt really hurt but if my knee has been doing a lot of clicking it can get a bit sore. It kind of feels like the bones are rubbing against each other when the knee moves. I can do about 25 of the side leg raises before my hip burns too much to do more. Trying to do the hip abductions my hip on the knee clicking side is quite immobile compared to the other side so I hope doing these exercises can eliminate the issues and be able to walk and run comfortably again
After one day it seems like it has already gotten better. I have been able to walk up and down the stairs with only hearing tiny clicks if any at all. Feels like its more aligned

Funny. I f'ed up my knee thanks to Jeff and his advice to not use hands when you get off the floor, as it is a sign of weak ABS. Once I was getting off the floor, no hands, and while pushing off my left knee in a sitting position, I heard some cracking, went to the floor and since then, the knee is just not the same as it was.
It is ironic, that I actually stumbled upon this video while searching on how to fix my knee pain.
Guess you 1st have to break someones knee thru bad advice to make them watch a video on how to fix the pain. Good marketing Athlean X.
PS: lesson for those w/o f'ed up knees. use your freaking hands when getting off the floor.

One day my knees suddenly started hurting i thought it was because of football. I went to the doctor he did an x-ray and examined my knees and told me everything is okay. After a few days my knees pain vanished. I don't Know how it vanished i guess because it was because i reduced playing football for a month and my knees got recovered but today was my second week at gym and i did a leg workout and my knees are hurting again. please can you tell me what's the matter and what should i do

I'm 54 former football player, wrestler, I've had knee replacement in my LT knee and three scope in my RT knee. They want to replace my knees due to the inflammation and bone on bone irritation plus arthritis I have. I can't really do my legs anymore, and when I do it feels extremely unstable, I've gained weight because I can't work out the way I would like or the way I normally do. Jeff can you help or does anyone have any good advice? Thanks

Regularly have left knee pain after roller blading, had to stop going for more than 15+ km (-10 miles) at once, take several day breaks. Tried this test, 50 on the right (with some pain and stiffness afterwards I'll admit, on the left (problematic) side I started to have issues after TWENTY! Managed to push to 50 but it was hard!
Now I'll proceed with -strengthen knee exercises- while you are doing your test: D

It is mentioned that the hips of males usually are weak. as a woman in her mid twenties, I kept having knee pain as well during intense workouts and/or after and found this. after only about 20one one and 25 on the other side I already felt my glutes burning like crazy as if they have been never used before. so shocking. definetly have to do these two workouts regularly and am looking forward to the results: )

Jeff, I find that w/ both the shoulder and hip that the stabilizers I. e, infrasup/subscap (shoulder. glut medius/gemmelus/ piriformis, respond better w/ isometric exercises (specific) than isotonic. also, w/ knee px and flat feet, uncorrected, that the lateral femoral condole would be effected rather than medial, especially w/ significant IR. oh yea, BAN upright rows, unless your in need of patients/ clients

That -girly- exercise you mentioned actually felt really good to do for my knee pain, I think I have what you-re talking about with weak hips
I have a bad knee and doctors didn-t know how to help me, they just told me I had a tendon that went over my knee or something like that
I-m going to look for more videos for exercises for weak hips, I think they will help me a lot

I do have glute weakness due to hypermobility: / im so prone to these things, you were right when I do that move it burns right where it started. Thanks for the advice.

So, I've been having knee pain off and on for months. It comes for a week or two then goes away if I rest it. Anyways, this time I started strengthening my glute medius and it's amazing! After only a few days, my knee stopped popping and grinding. going to keep strengthening the glutes and I think I'll be good! Thank you!
