t matter whether you have a workout planned for the day or not, you are going to want to do what I-m showing you in this video every single morning. This 2 minute and 30 second routine is something that is going to help you improve your posture, abs and even your grip strength. Not to mention, if you stay consistent with this, you will have a way to determine whether or not your workouts are causing your CNS to burnout a bit and that you might need added recovery. The first thing you need to do in the first 30 seconds of rolling out of bed is drink 20-24 ounces of water. We are chronically dehydrated and we often times forget how important it is to start our day off by rehydrating after being asleep for the last 6 to 8 hours. We often just get up and get on our way without making a concerted effort to replenish the water that we have lost and not taken in while asleep. This can have a dramatic impact on the energy levels we have throughout the rest of the day, our ability to focus and the amount of strength we can output when we hit the gym for our workout. I do this by keeping two bottles of lukewarm bottled water by my bathroom sink that I ingest quickly after waking up. This portion of the morning routine should take no more than 30 seconds. Next, I walk towards my closet, but not to start picking out my outfit. Instead, I make a pitstop at the pullup bar that I have hanging over the doorway. Here I take 2 minutes to hang from the bar (each one with a different intention) to complete my morning routine. The first is a one minute decompression hang. The goal here is to try and decompress my spine and do a dead arm hang from the bar. It helps to keep your feet lightly in contact with the ground so you can drop your pelvis and feel as if the weight of it is stretching out your hips and lower back. Beyond that however, you want to try and address the lack of thoracic extension that we get by being in a slumped posture throughout much of the day and even at night when our heads are propped up on a pillow. Here, you want to reach your head through to improve the extension of your spine and help to correct this with consistent daily efforts. Of course, the accumulated hang time between this and the second minute we are about to embark on will help to increase the strength of your grip and forearms. Regarding the second minute, now you want to try and engage your abs by lifting your feet off the ground and hollowing out your lower abs. Do not just hang here, instead engage the shoulder blades as well to get better shoulder stability. The goal of this movement is to be able to hold it for one minute as well. And there you have it. That is a simple routine that you can do every single morning regardless of whether you have a workout planned for that day or not. The amount of work being done here is not enough to cause you to fatigue or negatively impact your workout later on but is going to have an impact when it is done consistently every morning. If you are looking for a complete workout and diet routine that you can follow to get ripped abs and athletic muscle year round, then head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. If you want to look like an athlete you have to train like an athlete and this is my step by step system for doing it

Today I was walking to the kitchen after waking up, opening the fridge, and a chocolate bar caught my sight.
I was about to reach it, when suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I was looking back in surprise, and behind me stood. Jeff Cavaliere (no shirt, only muscles and six pack.
I was thinking of an excuse, but he just looked at my in a serious way and said:
-Bad idea. Now go back to bed, watch this video here, and then get up CORRECTLY. -

One thing to be aware of: if you let your pelvis drop you well stretch your spine near/at the bottom. This is basically creating 'butt wink'. If you are having Sciatica from this location, this stretch will exacerbate your symptoms and prolong your recovery. It did that to me. In that case, keep your back tight at the bottom. Don't let that pelvis drop. Get the necessary relaxation of that area through gentle massage instead. That has been my experience.

Just one little question, because somehow this is wierd for me. Is Jeff just fairly small or are american doors that high?
When I try to do this, I'm nearly kneeling on the floor. So the first hang is no problem, but the second round with the abs, I realy have to bend hard.
Or would it work to, if instead of straight legs, I just pull them in and do it with bend legs instead?

I do this but have some L shoulder impingement hanging. I actually do band face pulls in the morning, walk around the yard with 35lb. plates, modified pullups, parallel bar crunches first thing every morning. Hang from bar with scapular tension like you show. Back -L4, 5, 6- problems - and all this really works well for me decompressing spine and stretches out/relaxes back. :)

I'm a little bit confused about the -do this every day- videos, because they also include e. g. training the abs.
But what about resting? Are abs so quick to catch up in regeneration? And wouldn't the practice in this video further delay the regeneration in your forearms?
I'm really curious about that so I'm glad for any info/thoughts.

Water in the am is great, but how about using a recyclable bottle or glass.
PLEASE.
you're personally generating 730 pieces of garbage each year just from this practice. it'd be nice if you encouraged your many followers this way. millions of pieces of pollution could be avoided. Thanks for your attention to this!

Ok, I'm liking this guy. I was always annoyed with him constantly walking around with no shirt on, and his constant pump. But I must say, he really does give us good information and it's only for the better of all of our health. So thank you. And sorry for hatin' on ya! Thanks for all your help!

Following up with Jeff's others videos, the idea is to do this fasted, after rehydrating, before anything else. This is setting your brain, your central nervous system, and breaking bad habit loops in the morning. You're investing in yourself, in the long term. Your future self will thank you.

Jeff, I get a lot of lower back pain when I dead hang with my feet the floor lightly like you have done. The more I try to relax into it the greater the pain is and I'm forced to engage my abs to stop the low back pain. Am I doing it wrong or is my stuff just messed up?
