A popular story tells that Walt Disney personally gave Blackpool Pleasure Beach permission to base the attraction on the original Alice In Wonderland ride at Disneyland, as he had earlier visited the park while researching to build Disneyland. However, it is not known how true this story is.
The ride plays an instrumental version of the Golden Ticket theme from the 1971 movie, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, which was added to the ride at some stage. Previously, it's known that the ride featured sound effects which have since disappeared.

For all those asking about the Disney involvement - absolutely true. Walt actually stayed with Leonard & Doris Thompson (owners of the Pleasure Beach at the time) as he was doing a bit of research for Disneyland and had gotten to know them both. As a thank you he actually wrote and granted permission for their copy of Alice. I have seen a copy of the letter but forget where.

I love this ride I just love how vibrant and colourful it is the art team at the pleasure beach do an amazingly good job at keeping it like that they certainly did a fantastic job at the exterior and facade.

This seems like it's hilariously fast for a simple dark ride, like they're trying to hustle you past the sets before you can get a good look at them. I half expected it to have a coaster-like dip or two.

Walt Disney visted Blackpool pleasure beach, and gave them rights to build this ride as Walt owned the rights to Alice in wonder. And then Disney made his first theme park after his visit. True story

The reason why there is an Alice and Wonderland ride in Blackpool was because Walt Disney actually visited the park and met the Owner, They both became good friends, and this is probably how it started

It's very similar to Disneyland. Some character designs, directions, etc. are very similar to those from a building at the end, and what is the Golden Ticket song But it has potential and power

The low tech displays and effects coupled with the exposed pipes, warehouse appearance and closed off service areas give it this weird industrial vibe and I'm liking it.

Did it used to go slower There are so many details and signs to read no one would ever be able to see them all at this speed. Have to ride several times I guess

What in the Willy Wonka bootleg ride is this They literally copied the structure of the ride outside and even have pieces of Disney props lol what in tarnation

Wonder if the Willy Wonka ride has I'm Late, or The Mock Turtles Song playing Very strange having that playing on an Alice in Wonderland ride either way!

I find it amusing that they also included the Doorknob since he's the only Disney-original character for the Wonderland cast.
reply

Whats funny is that Disneyland's version also has an outdoor section on top of the building so Im sure they took inspiration.

I'm 62 and although its very old its pleasant enough as a trip down memory lane and just accept it for what it is. Classic
