While Switzerland is one of the world's most expensive countries to visit, it still can be traveled cheaply. Here's my guide on how I managed to spend only 500 on transportation, lodging, food, and entertainment on a week in the beautiful country of Switzerland Claudia: I will be travelling around Switzerland in July 2020 and I want to say

Living in Switzerland (formerly OK in the US) I KNOW how expensive it is here - almost embarrassing for me! Restaurant eating is the worst! But alot of cafes and restaurants in the towns/villages do offer daily menus over the lunch hour for a 3 course(soup, salad, main) for around 15 so ask about that. I shop COOP and yes there is a take away section, usually right at the front in vegetables, where working people often come in and don t have to shop the whole place but go there to the refrigerator areas and you can get all kinds of fresh sandwiches, salads, fruit bowls, macaroni salads complete with utensils in the bottom layer(like Ryan. Betty Bossi is the local in-house fresh brand so look for that on the package for a good product. I wasn t aware that renting a car could be so cheap here - good to know. Always good, even travelling, to have several folding fabric grocery bags with you - save on plastic and otherwise being charged now for plastic, which they should. You can use these fold-ups over and over throughout your trip and small enough to fit in your pocket! Migros carries mainly their own brands, not that I m brand conscious but COOP offers more variety. We re BIG on recycling here, so after you re done with your canned or plastic drinks, go back into the COOP and there are holes in the wall for disposing of them! We are also doing plastic recycling here but I m not sure if COOP has a place for that (we collect it in a separate recycling bag for disposal when full. Hope this helps some of you. As a last tip, again on food, maybe do the big meal at lunch with the daily menu for a good price and then at night, pick up the grocery store items and eat back in your room or somewhere on a bench with a nice view! Sorry we re so expensive here!

On Food:
If you are in the city, look for COOP/MIGRO/MANORA Restaurant. You can enjoy a decent meal (breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea) within/around CHF 20 or less. Otherwise, look for MIGRO TAKEAWAY so you would have a chance of hot food (especially in the late afternoon/early evening.
On Stay & Travel:
If you stay in Hostel/Hotel (Not AirB&B though) in some areas, you will have FREE transport card for enjoying some discount on local visit. Or if you stay in specific region, you can buy regional pass. Need to do your own research though.

I just wanted to add, since I was there when you started releasing these videos:
-Coop had cheap beers - 0. 75 CHF (others more or less but over all cheap)
-Coop liter bottles of water 0. 25 CHF
-Swiss travel pass is worth every penny (no need to validate, just jump on trains boats and busses)
-if you have the Swiss travel pass, skip junfraujoch and do schilthorn (you don t have to pay anything extra.
-with the Swiss travel pass you can go up to Stoos but cannot use it to go up to Fronalpstock.

Dude I want to say I am about to travel to Switzerland for my birthday which is next month on February 20th but I want to spend only few days over there. For a person who has done solo traveling is it possible to do it by myself on a budget? I will stick with grocery shopping and might consider renting a car. Do you need an International drivers license for Switzerland?

Hello Ryan. Best video I've watched about visiting Switzerland! Love the views too! Question: How was parking and tolls? I heard these two cost a lot in Switzerland. We are planning an 8-day road trip to Switzerland for September.
