I used all of your tips when learning Chinese. Also I had to watch Mandarin Chinese television programs in order to pick up the language. And I also listen to Chinese language music. I had to meet several people from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong just to improve my oral communication. I read several Chinese novels as way to learn more about the language. I read a Chinese newspaper before. I learnt several Chinese idioms as well.
To everyone learning foreign languages, dont be to nervous to speak it with a native speaker.

I used to have conversations with myself when learning French and German at high school. Even the odd bits of other languages I know (even if it's only the occasional few words and 0 grammar) I tend to talk to myself. Also if I tell someone I know only a few words of the local language, if they're not busy sometimes they'll be like ok cool, so what words do you know how to say in insert language here, which I also find has its uses.

one thing that really helps me (I'm learning English, is to write on the language you're trying to learn. grab a notebook, or use your computer, and write about your day or anything that comes to your mind because as you're writing, you need to find words that mean what you wanna say.
hopefully this helps someone (:

Or when you are in highschool and college, maybe you can have your family to open your house to a international student (the government will pay you) the same age and they will live with you for a school session/semester! Then you will able to have a fluent speaker in your presence 24/7!

amazing video, I'm going to translate an entire book, but at the end of every sentence, I'm going to write grammar notes to see how the rules are applied. I don't like those short sentences we find in books.

As for the subtitles point, with Korean it is almost pointless with English subtitles. The sentence structure are so different, so one end up just getting confused instead.
