I would add. For us older folks that remember the pictures of drab grey Soviet days of the 70's and 80's with bread lines, old cars and outdated dress. Don't think that is the Russia of today. Today Russia it's pretty much indistinguishable from any European country. Modern, high tech, high end shopping malls, fine restaurants, high speed internet and cell service, etc. In fact if you ignore the Cyrillic signage, you would think you were in Berlin, Paris or any other modern city.

In 1981 my Uni trip to the USSR (now Russia) cost $1, 500. Ten days with everything included, including airfare from USA and ferry to Helsinki. It was quite different than explained and shown in this video. It was like going back in time 150 years. Nothing much had been updated yet. There was no bathroom tissue, just torn pieces of Pravda in a box attached to the wall. Glad I went when I did - it's too modern now.

Yeah the dont prejudge thing is why i looked this up to begin with, lol its only the progressives that want to slander russia. Honestly i think if: russia and china split, and we punished our media and politicians for using russia as a boogeyman so crooked weirdos could get votes i think we would be well on our way to being allies. But our media has to be held accountable first.

Currently the US State Dept advises Americans not to visit Russia, citing local Russian police selectively enforcing laws, and the US embassy's inability to assist American citizens there. Aside from that I really don't want to visit a country that still engages in assassinating political dissidents. Russia seems still stuck in the Dark Ages.

Great video, very informative! Another advise from russian to travelers: try to find a friend or a person who can give you a tour of the city. It's a completely different experience
Also, a lot of russians really hate putin! We are completely aware what kind of person he is, trust me

mmnok. the point is: DON'T visit Russia unless you want to buy some weapons, unless you have CIA on your ass for disclosing classified informations, or unless you are looking for bodyguards.

And considering very recent events, don't try to discuss the real facts behind the history of Stalin's regime. You might end up being disappeared or locked in jail.

Number 11 is very important. Don't Bad mouth Russia or speak about politics. Like with many of their journalists, if you do, you'll be killed.

Another tip to avoid being pick pocketed is to have your wallet in the front of your pocket. Avoid using your back pocket.
