I roamed the region a few years ago and it is an extremely powerful area. What absolutely destroyed me was when I headed west, through the Somme (WW1, and stopped at the Australian memorial at Villiers Bretonneux. Officers and privates, enemies and comrades, all buried side by side with head stones that often read A soldier of the great war. Known unto god.
It's a lonely place and scared by the second war. It ruined me.

I agree with what sacrifices these American, British, Canadians! Belgium forces made in 1944! However, When I went for 75th anniversary of D-Day, as an American with friends was treated as a 2nd class citizen. In Grand Camp - Maisy especially in the American owned Tourneaquette, RESTAURANT ( (hacked rheumatoid spelling ) again American owner? ! I SPENT OVER 700 EUROS HERE! !
NO Respect for America. .

Hi there Wolter. Really enjoy Your videos, hope I could travel half as much as You. You and Your family really seem to be nice persons.
I was wondering, did You see something related to the Great War (world war 1) in Normandy? My great grandfather took part in it and was in Normandy, as a huge fan of wwii history adding to that, Normandy surely is a place I would love to go.

I will for sure go there. I do want to mention that the Germans and Axis powers also lost many men. The everyday solider was just following orders and didn't necessarily have the same ideology as those in charge (just like any country) Just remember that families on both sides of any war are affected and that we all want the same things when you strip away conflict.

I do know my great uncle was in D-Day he survived and picked up a German pistol and a German watch, the pistol was destroyed in a house fire, the watch is kept safe as it is now currently worth over 10k. It must have been hell for him to be there. Wish I could have met him before he passed, I would have talked to him for days about his experiences in WWII.

I love Normandy as a whole, and the Bayeux museum was excellent. I had an almost spiritual experience at the American Cemetery among so many heroes, and to top it all off, I visited on September 1, which is the date that the Nazis invaded Poland and is commonly considered the start of the war. Great Memorial Day video!

Great video Mark! I didn't realize that the British beaches Juno and Sword have been developed and no longer have the spirit of from the war. That is sad that commercial development has reigned, but at least Omaha and Utah Beaches are for the most part similar to what they would have been like in 1944. Thanks Mark!

That sculpture is shit. It's like they wanted to commemorate the event, but didn't want to commemorate the event, so settled on some abstract crap that you could literally put anywhere. outside a public toilet at Victoria Station for instance.

My son and I took the tour of all of the Normandy beaches. It was so tranquil, but eerie knowing that so many young men died trying to liberate Europe. I said my prayers to them and I knew I was on hallowed ground. God bless them always!
