It also depends on what you are going to see. Personally I am never going to a city like Rome or Paris in the peak season because its too hot and not enjoyable to walk around and you end up spending all your money on cold beverages and eating where they have air conditioning instead of great food. But around April cities like Rome or Paris are perfect because you dont need a jacket, but by the Mediterranean Sea it might still be a little cold for the beach in April.
If youre going to the Nordic countries its still too cold in April and better to wait till June - and you might get lucky.

Mark, you talk about traveling during particular seasons but I also like to take in to consideration the best days of the week to travel. I always like to fly out in the middle of the week and fly back during the middle of the week. The air prices are cheaper and there is not as much of a crowd.
The same goes for tourist attractions. I went to the Louvre on a Friday morning in May and the line (queue) only took 10 minutes to get into the museum. It wasn't nearly as crowded as it would have been during the weekend either.

Very informative and insightful videos Mark! though, since you've been so many times in the Mediterranean, you should've removed the siesta thing from your dislike list by now. Given the warm climate, people, regardless if they work or not for the family business as many do in the south, must have a rest and work on more humane terms than those of a slave on a large corporation. Although, I have to admit that it did annoy me, as well, finding all restaurants in Italy closed at Greek lunch time (around 3 pm) Cheers!

One thing you didn't mention--maybe because it's too obvious--is the weather.
I was ok went I went to The UK in late Sept-early Oct. However, I went to The Baltics and Poland in October and I was freezing the whole time. Winter for them is early October-early May. That's something else to keep in mind.
I know people who went to Germany in November and regretted it beacuse it was so cold they didn't enjoy themselves.
Sure, Greece is great off-season. Northern Europe, not so much.

I went to Athens and Santorini in Feb. 2020 and it was wonderful. Weather was fantastic. Athens was pretty busy for that time of year, but Santorini was very quiet, but everything was opened, like the Archeology Museum, many restaurants, gift shops etc. We stayed in Fira while there and stayed in a rental that had the most beautiful views, we just couldn't get over it. Wonderful trip.

Shoulder months are my preference based on everything listed but peak season travel is definitely a must for sure. Christmas in NYC, Paris, Prague and many other European cities is fantastic. Cherry blossom season in Japan is super cool. Fall foliage in the Mid-Atlantic and New England USA is breathtaking. All crowded but well worth it. Excellent video, Mark.

The pros: cheaper flight and hotel rates; less tourism; wonderful experience! Prepare yourself with an umbrella, rain boots, and warm layers of clothing, and you'll have a wonderful time.

Spring works best. I am in France right now but it's very windy and cold. Last week was great in Amsterdam. It was hot. Apparently it was hot as hell in France this February. This is a no-brainer. All you have to do is use the loose guide of when school and colleges are in session that's when you will have less traveling all around the world. September October April and May. In many places September is still a very good weather month. Not quite sure how people don't understand that.

Summer: Nordic countries. White nights, and less crowded than the rest of Europe.
Autumn: France or Germany. Beautiful trees and harvest festivals.
Winter: The big cities. They are lit up, and you can be indoors.
