As someone who has been to a couple of these, Id just like to say three small points. 1. Totally agree with little mermaid. As a Dane who has been to Copenhagen to visit a couple times, its really just a wait in line, take a picture, then leave type, situation. Theres a couple cool places nearby to visit, and the boat tour can be informative. But even the guides now a days advise other Danes against seeking it out. Its just over crowded with people who all seem to want to touch her instead of appreciate her for what she stands/sits for. 2. Totally agree with the walk of fame in Hollywood. Its full of homeless people, closed down stores, street performers, and thats about it. The Chinese Theatre is basically the only thing to grab a picture of there, otherwise its a waste. So many better places to see in LA County. 3. Disagree with Forbidden City. Its actually really interesting, and unless you go during the busy season its not that bad. And your advice of go early is the EXACT WRONG advice. They have a cap of people allowed in there on any single day, and you can book in advance to see which days are busier than others. So tons of people rush for morning tickets, and its actually much nicer in the early afternoon to wander around when the rush is over. The touristy feel is only in a couple small side areas, and with how GIANT it is, its not that hard to find quieter areas, overall its pretty free flow if you dont hit rush hour. The giant crowd you have in the video isnt actually inside the forbidden city, thats in the entrance courtyard before you enter. Theres a lot that just chill there without actually entering the real forbidden city. Also if anyone does go, remember your ID, and grab the audio guide right at the entrance, extremely informative. And if the clock exhibit is still going on, go see it even if theres a line, VERY impressive.

I've been to 3 f those and I would say: 1- The little mermaid is so overrated. It's very tiny and disappointing. It's not what you really expect it to be after seeing in pictures. There are more interesting things in Copenhagen that anyone can see. I remember walking all the way to get there, only to see a little statue on a rock in the middle of the water. It's even hard to get next to it. There was this Chinese lady who fell so hard while she was going down. It was embarrassing. 2- The astronomical clock in Prague is actually cool. I wish we could get to explore it more, rather than just standing in the crowd and looking at it while everyone is failing to snap photos. Yes, you can't take a selfie without having a hundred humans included. But, you don't really get to invest so much time into it since it's in the middle of a square downtown. You can do other things as well. 3- The Pisa tower is great. It's been on my bucket list since I was a child and I m really glad I got to see it in person, touch it, eat a margarita pizza right in front of it and of course take the cheesiest pictures ever. It was a very fun one-time experience. My friends and I were traveling around in Italy. We were there in the morning, spent some time and headed to Milan in the afternoon.

Mona Lisa should be on that list, along with on the list of biggest tourist disappointments. The Louvre is great. If you go there, however, I recommend going on your own when you have plenty of time to actually see it. I was there with a student tour, and they gave us 2 hours to look at things. Talk about a disappointment i felt rushed the whole time. I spent the last half hour hurrying through it so i wouldn't be late. It's huge, by the way. And the Mona Lisa? Forget it It's behind some kind of protective glass. It's roped off, and there must have been a crowd of 100 people trying to get close to it. Forget the Romanticized idea of standing there quietly, looking at it, taking it in, being one with Leonardo, etc. You'd be better served buying a book about it. Or a postcard. Or a cheap reproduction. You could at least look at it then without the herd experience.

I would add Neuschwanstein (Germany's Disney castle) to the list. I've been there several times. It's nice, but you have to walk all the way to the top of the hill. That's not bad in and of itself, but the last time I was there, we were running late (we had been stuck in traffic for 2 hours, and we practically had to run up the hill before it closed. The time before that, it was unseasonably cold, and the path was covered with ice and slush. The are rides you can take to the top, but of course they aren't free. The castle itself is beautiful, but Ludwig II, its designer, was declared insane before its completion, so it is still unfinished. Unfurnished, too, for the most part. There are a lot of empty spaces. You're more or less herded through it. Nice, but not that nice. The next trip I organize, i'll try not to include it.

Agreed Bologna over Pisa Bologna is AWESOME But it's in another region so. You usually go to Pisa not as your main destination, but as you travel around Tuscany you make it a one day stop. At least, that's what I did. It's worth a visit, but Tuscany has so many beautiful cities and, above all, quaint, little, old villages. I've been there many times, I love it. But don't forget about other Italian regions. Like Emilia Romagna, where Bologna is I may be biased. I've just moved here and I'm enjoying every minute of it(Also, a little out of context but. A shout-out to Veneto. There's more than Venice ok)

This is not exactly my definition of a tourist trap since many of these aren't even paid attractions. I mean, sure the manneken pis and the little mermaid are nothing special but who goes to these places just to see those? and the former is actually quite central so it's not like you're even making a big detour just to see it. I've never been to Prague but it seems to me like the astronomical clock is another example of something that is quite central and free to enjoy. I can't even comment on the inclusion of the pyramids.

Like a lot of people already mentioned forbidden city is a absolute must see attraction and should not be on the list. I liked it even better than the Great Wall which depends of course on the exact location and season of the wall. Also while the astronomical clock is not the most interesting thing to see, you'll probably will be in Prague for some different reasons and might as well stop by if you are already there

Leaning tower of Pisa - sure it may be underwhelming and flocked with tourists, but it is placed in such a beautiful town, surrounded by breathtaking tuscan scenery. If you are going to the Leaning Tower of Pisa (i. e in Pisa) just to see the tower, don't bother, but definitely do go and see it if you want to immerse yourself in the culture, foods, wineries and views of Tuscany, it's very much worth your while.

Ok, some of these made sense. All of Hollywood is disappointing. I can see why it wouldnt be worth the time to fight to see little statues through crowds when there are better sights, but the Pyramids? The Forbidden City? I expected more things like- dont bother waiting hours for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty when you can see it from a boat ride.

would vote for Cabo de Roca, portugal's westernmost Europe. Nearly impossible to get good views of the cliffs, you cannot wander off much and if you do it can lead to death like what happened to that poor Polish family. If your aim is to see stunning cliffs and rock formations in sea then visit Ponta de Piedade and many other spots in the Algarve.
