My 3rd West Virginia Road Trip, in Real Time: Day 1

My 3rd West Virginia Road Trip, in Real Time: Day 1

This is day 1 of a 2-day road trip to West Virginia, done on July 13, 2019. Because of the popularity of the real time version of my southwest road trip, I decided to upload this in real time first. This starts out near my home in Herndon, Virginia and ends in Vienna, West Virginia. Day 2 in real time will be next. Back when I uploaded my first West Virginia road trip in June 2017, I mainly only uploaded it for friends and family to see, and I didn't have any following. Looking back, I was not happy with how that video was edited, and that is part of the reason why I did this trip. Like with my first trip, I didn't do this drive because I was simply trying to go from point A to point B; I wanted to explore and visit many of the places I used live in or visit many years ago, such as Bridgeport, WV; Montgomery, WV; and South Charleston, WV; among others

I love West Virginia! I was in Winona and Fayetteville back in the late 90s and fell in love with it. Dirt roads, winding roads, mountains, loved the hollers and all the animals and the sky. at night there were so many stars and black sky that you don't see in the cities like New Jersey where I come from. The moon was so big! We stayed in a mobile home in the holler in Winona. So peaceful and relaxing. Saw New River Gorge Bridge, crossed that, went into Fayetteville. Saw many things. gorgeous state. Love the Appalachian music also. Whenever I hear Country roads by Denver, my mind goes back to West Virginia.

I enjoy all of your videos, but I really love this one. For me, it is much more interesting to drive through the countryside and especially through the pretty little towns and villages on the smaller roads - the country roads sung about by John Denver - than to speed past everything on the interstate. This region is really beautiful. Not for nothing did John Denver call it "almost heaven". Thank you so much for the chance to travel there even during the LockDown. Take care and stay healthy.

Best video yet. This drive though back country roads, away from freeways is an absolute delight. Usually I watch 2 x speed, but this I watch real time all the way through. It's so nice cause you get to actually see something of America, rather than just freeway and trees lining it. We see small towns, and the whole style of the two states. Loved it.

Perfect video of very nice roads. Unfortunately I had to cancel my planned USA Roadtrip this year, I hope I will be able to do it next year. As I am a big fan of real-time videos, I am very glad you decided to post it first. Watched today 6hrs of it, tomorrow the rest: ) And the day after tomorrow day 2 of your trip: )

As a portuguese and European this video reminded to me a trip when I've been in Czech Republic, I explored with my dad all locations in the country in 10 hours, trees everywhere, those trees landscape in the video reminds to me Germany. The most beautiful European country to me in terms of natural landscape: )

It is very nice that you upload your videos in real time. I am a big fan of your round trips. I also find it very good that you display the dates of the trip. I can see and get to know your beautiful country.
As always, the best greetings from Germany / Thuringia. City: Apolda to Herndon, Virginia

I love these videos! As someone who is unable to drive due to a disability, this is a fun way to imagine yourself behind the wheel!
It would be cool to see a real time road trip along the entire I-10 corridor from LA to Jacksonville! Half the time you’ll be in Texas (my home State) lol

Fantastic! And thank you for showing my late grandfather's home state. I'm brazilian and I haven't had the opportunity to visit West Virginia yet. Unfortunately on this trip you did not pass through the city of Thomas. I look forward to the next videos!

I'm headed back to my hometown of Visalia California from Seattle on Thursday. I got 6 days off. Gonna drive down and see my family and friends and do some cliff jumping in Sequioa National Park. Was 103 last Monday. Should be perfect.

Good thing you had the mustang because some of those backroads were a handful! I always said West Virginia and PA have some of the most challenging backroads especially WV where they look fun to drive, but you'd better be on your toes!

Hey, Unclecoolie, it's weird you live off of US-50 in Herndon, Virginia. I live off the same highway in Sacramento, California. I think that is a coincidence. Keep up the good work on your videos!

I love your roadtrip but man please keep right also if you are doing the speed limit. I know you are allowed to overtake on the right but that sucks so please don't block traffic flow.

Hi. Great video as always. Just wondering, you didnt talk or listening to music at all during the journey Because all we can hear in the video is just the engine and car sounds.
reply

Thank you for the whole journey being at daytime, in good light, for not choosing a day with fog or heavy rain. Nice to be able to appreciate such fine scenery.
reply

I'm glad you didn't talk or play music as that made watching it more relaxing. I finally got to see parts of West Virginia I never visited. Thank you.

Curious as to why you use a rental car when you're leaving and returning from home. Surely it would be cheaper to use your own vehicle

Then I wanna sing " Country road, take me home to the place I belong, West Virginia, Mountain Mama, take me home, country road.

It's far better to see it in real time, man! Awesome video! Do you use Garmin 66W for your videos Or what do you use

Great video. Please tell us what equipment you used for videoing, geocoding and documenting your trip.

West Virginia's roads are so much smoother than Indiana's- Indiana chips and seals everything.
