2018 Lexus LX 570 Review and Comparison

Since I recently said that Land Cruiser shoppers should head to the Lexus dealer, it seemed only fitting that we take a quick look at teh Lexus LX 570. For 2018 the Lexus Land Cruiser gains a 2-row model making it a hair less expensive than its Toyota sister-ship although you do give up a few goodies to get the Lexus logo on the front

This review had me tracking (although not necessarily agreeing on all points) up to the conclusions. Then everything went sideways and nonsensical. The Lincoln Navigator over the LX? Really? For what purpose? Its not even in the same class ofVehicles, let alone would anyone ever even consider taking a Navigator off road WTH? Ditto on Infiniti QX - great vehicle, really nice on-road ride, but who in their right mind would ever even think of Going offroad with one? And the Range Rover? Seriously? Ok so you get to spend about 10k-15k more for one, only to have a completely unreliable and very expensive maintenance nightmare for the rest of your ownership experience. Ive had 5 friends whove all had range rovers and ever single one of them had nothing but major issues and nightmares with them, from electronics glitches that couldnt be fixed to engine and transmission problems. every one of them would tell you, never again. They all ditched them and went for something a lot more reliable, Japanese or German. That you would go there and recommend either or both of these as an alternative to the LX, just flabbergasts me. Since you dont include any video footage of driving this vehicle off-road, (and there are tons of YouTubes of just that) I have to presume you have never driven either the LC or LX off-road where the Magic actually really happens with these vehicles. They can literally go anywhere, over any terrain, and are extremely capable and comfortable in doing so. Not even in the same class as the navigator or Infiniti. And I wouldnt be caught dead off road in Colorado in the backcountry Miles from anything including cell coverage with a Range Rover that Id be constantly worrying and wondering when it was going to suddenly just stop functioning (as many of my friends have experienced, but at least they could call a tow truck. I highly urge you to reconsider what youre doing here and how youre doing it. This review doesnt reflect the key primary purpose and function for what its buyers are intending its use - off-road capability plus onroad everyday driving comfort, with tank like reliability in a vehicle designed to last a long, long, long time and very low overall cost of maintenance and ownership. Nothing else in this class.

This and the land cruiser are one of the few full size SUV nameplates that still actually make sense to buy and keep long term. I would not put any faith in owning an ecoboost powered 100k Navigator past 50k miles, or a Land Rover past warranty either. Cars are becoming a disposable commodity at a rapid pace and rest assured the LX and LC are some of the last of their breed when it comes to extreme service life, durable vehicles and I expect the resale values on these will reflect that immensely. I just wonder if the 300 series (if we ever get one) will follow the same ethos or fall prey to the trends of short term consumerism. I certainly hope not.

Frankly I think the Lexus LX is the best compromise in the luxury SUV segment. Its comfortable, durable, and off road capable. No other entry is all of those. Range rovers arent durable. The QX80 and Navigator arent off road capable. Theyre all comfortable obviously but I do factor reliability into comfort. If my car could break at any second, I would be terrified to drive it. Obviously Im exaggerating but you get my point. What I think Lexus should do is offer two versions of the LX: one with proper 4WD and independent rear suspension for improved comfort, practicality, and efficiency; and one like this to be off road capable.

There is a little discrepancy between size offer he mentions, comparing it with Range Rover as competitor. Range Rover is unibody which make sit more modern SUVs with spacious cabin inside, similar to crossovers - unique. What is similar between Range Rover and Landcruiser is that they have same all time permanent, heavy expensive system of all SUVs, drivetrain that Subaru uses without mechanical locking differentials on axles. Range Rovers and Landcruisers have the best of all SUV system, for off-roading and for safety, difference are - one frame, the other one is spacious unibody.

Ive been waiting for a proper review of this. In my opinion, Toyota needs to redesign the Land Cruiser and the LX from the ground up. The permanent 4WD system hurts fuel economy and the third row folding situation reminds me of the 1990s Toyota Previa. They need to copy ford and go for the independent rear suspension set up for more practicality and comfort. The interior is good but the exterior kinda shows its age. Like I already said, fuel economy is abysmal but that is also probably the fault of the engine. Its a good vehicle but its old and it shows on paper and in person

Compared to the LC, this will look dated and out of place within 3 years. The LC will never look dated. The 570 has more breakable and fail ready gadgets. Youre talking about off-road ability when maybe 5% of LCs and 570s will ever see dirt or grass. 2 more hp and 2 more lb-ft of torque for the 570, big deal. Also funny how you set up the front passenger seat in the LC for a 65 person and complained about legroom but set up the 570 for a 6 passenger. Youre reviews of these two vehicles are very biased toward the Lexus and therefore worthless. Youre better than this.

Isnt the Infinity/Patrol a part time old-school 4wd? I certainly thought so. That means 2wd on the road. By the way, my oldie Land Cruiser has or had an electronically actuated rear diff lock, but it hasnt worked in years, as well as hydraulically assisted height adjustable suspension with comfort mode which is faultless so far. All the salty road spray has killed either the electric motor or the connectors on the back axle, and since it adds near zero to its actual capability [no rock crawling here], its not worth repairing.

It looks like a war wagon with a battering ram in front. Where does the machine gun and the flame thrower go? I agree with Alex that the giant grill seems to fit this vehicle because it looks rugged and is fully capable of running over bears and other pesky wild animals as you cruise through the forest at high speed. I would use it for chasing down and capturing Wookiees. As I have said before, Toyota designers spend most of their time watching cartoons on television. None are older than 11, at least mentally.

How does Lexus GX460 compare to the LX570 in terms of durability, reliability and longevity? Trying to decide between the two for my personal daily driver to work (city) and family (2 kids, Labrador) vehicle for long distance trips, camping/off road, etc. For budget reasons, considering used 2013-15 LX or slightly newer 2015-17 GX to keep forever. Would really appreciate thoughts. thank you

Lincoln Navigator overall best buy? that hideous looking truck that looks like something from the early 90s. I get when you say it has more features like more adjustable and massage seats for example but i have seen the interiors of both and the navigator is average compared to the fit and finish of the LX 570. The Lx is just miles ahead in every way.
