We've always had something of a soft spot for the BMW M2 here at Autocar. The first generation car immediately marked itself out as something special when it arrived in 2016, and the subsequent M2 Competition and M2 CS only improved on greatness. However, there's a new one on the way. Built on BMW s Cluster Architecture model platform, this new M2 is larger and heavier than those that came before. Can the use of shared parts from the excellent BMW M4 offset the more substantial kerbweight? jgr: A lighter car might have been better. yes, yes it would. Goes on to explain the technology. Like what? Diffs, stiffening braces, driveshaft? Like how the Fxx series cars had carbon fibre strut braces instead of steel on the new Gxx cars? These cars are heavy because they are AWD and have cost cutting measures all over the place to keep profits climbing. I have no doubt it's great but yes, a lighter car is better.
