The new Range Rover Velar is one of Land Rover-s most desirable cars yet, but while the model is new, the Velar name is not. The first Velar-badged cars appeared on the roads in the UK in the late 1960s, when Land Rover wanted to hide its Range Rover prototypes during testing. Taking its name from the Italian word -velare- - which means -conceal- - seven prototypes were built, and later crushed. However, a handful of pre-production models survived, and we-ve been for a spin in one to get a sense of the new Velar-s heritage

Yes Velar is the correct name for the pre production RR not Velaar! Also vehicle featured isn't a true Velar! Wrong fuel cap, has rear wiper! Has wrong bumpers! Has cubby box inside! Has to many switches on dashboard! Might have the right chassis number! But it ain't a proper Velar! But do like the new mota! Just get the name right! V8LandRover!

It's the same word irrespective of how you pronounce it, nothing mystical, they just abbreviated V Eight Land Rover - Velar.
