Volkswagen XL1 review - Auto Express Lewis: Why do they keep banging on about the 'future's' technology - it's a battery, an electric motor, an engine and the well known principle of less weight, less drag. It's been done before a shit ton of times but now because it's better (and eye-wateringly expensive) all of a sudden it's 'futuristic'.
If they really wanna sell this and have it make a difference they need to either trickle their updated tech to the daughter companies, sell it off, or make more than the piss pathetic amount their making so it's actually viable for the common market. Although I'm assuming this is just a proof of concept

-. - what a joke. Of course a Hybrid is going to be super efficient if you drive it gently and most importantly PRE CHARGED.
The Diesel alone does about 2L/100km, only about 1/3rd below the A2/Lupo 3L versions, which both were just slightly modified with far worse aerodynamics and the Lupo already weighted around 300kg more.

for that money i could get a tesla S, or a ramped up tesla roadster that gets close to 400 miles on a charge for similar money. Its a cool car but the price ruins any gains one could save on gas in a single lifetime. but hopefully this sort of design and tech will trickle down into cars that are more common

Too expensive, should of came out with it 20/30 years ago because we had the technology for it. Electric is better since you get 9999999999999999999999 mpg. (lol because its easy to get 200 mpg when you have a plug in isnt it? -Oh I get 900 mpg on my chevy volt. - lol)

0-60 in 12 seconds is fine with me. And 99 top speed is still almost instant jail sentence. I-d be more than happy if car manufacturers stopped chasing speed and swapped to efficiency and lowering costs (cost obviously not an issue with the XL)

So you British. Your standard is MPG. So per gallon. But you don't use this reference because at a petrol station you sell it by liters. And for the test, you use the miles on the board for the test and everything is in kms. Bristish logic

Just talking trash! You have to make longer rides to get the right gas consumption and must start with a completely empty battery! Hub Nut drove this car and came to a consumption of 4. 5 L / 100 km, which is not so brilliant for a 2-seater.

If they want to make money out of the design, mass produce it or something similar. Commuters could save thousands on fuel every year and spend the money on their families.

Chief selling point: it'll save you a lot of money. Price: Over 100k pounds, which translates to about $175, 000 or so, I think. And that's 5 years ago. Brilliant!

Big oil in America is too Strong to let this car come to America, the biggest (money maker) consumer of oil. Big oil is holding up progress in the U. S.
