the boxster is NOT a big seller for them, its like in the bottom 25% of their range. ie taycan, 911 and maycan sell much much more.
i hope the render in this video is nothing like the car in the end and I am sure it wont be. The car here is a cayman, smoothed out, but why would porsche miss the chance to alter and improve the design with no holds barred and no barriers. mission concepts look way better than the awful render here, sorry, but its awful.

Comparing the taycans weight vs the cayman seems a little irrelevant, why not compare the taycan to porsches other 4door saloon, the panamera? The panamera turbo is 1995kg, whereas the taycan turbo s is 2300kg, thats 15% more weight than a comparable ICE car. I could easily see them make an electric cayman weigh within 100kg of an ICE cayman.

Dispute the whole EVs can-t be sports cars though. It-s not all about weight: Most EVs are 4wd but to really be sporty, they need 4 motors. Then you can get full authority torque vectoring (see Chris Harris-s eSLS video from 2012) and no ICE car can do that. Then the results are epic.

I don't think they'll release until the can do it with solid state batteries. Then they can offset the battery weight with. simply lighter batteries. VW Audi are pumping vast sums into a company called QuantumScape to develop solid state EV batteries. Fingers crossed we start seeing it in cars by 2025.

It looks like dog vomit. And it's electric that's sacrilegious to the sports car world. But you can't teach young people anyting. I wouldn't be caught dead riding in that boring little one speed electric golf cart with doors. I don't care if it is fast there's more to a sports car then endless torque

As a daily driver, I would not mind one day owning an EV. But for a proper sports car, I have exactly zero interest in an electric Boxster or Cayman. I-ll happily keep my 981 Boxster S with manual transmission and watch the price skyrocket once Porsche stops building ICE Caymans and Boxsters.

I've been lusting for an electric convertible. Having owned 5 Ev's, including 2 current Teslas, the open air electric sports car is my dream. I will trade my 2013 SL550 in a heartbeat for an electric Boxster! And I love my MB Roadster, so, I wouldn't exchange it for an ICE Boxster.

I entirely agree with you about convertibles. I've had convertibles for my last four cars. Although I've had some nice cars (like an M3 convertible) the Boxster I once owned is the best car I've ever owned - and I regret selling it. My current MX-5 is fun, but a Boxster EV? Yes!

As a petrolhead I can't help but feel scared about the demise of the ICE, but that move will put Porsche ahead of the curve in electrifying their new car fleet among legacy manufacturers, I'm fairly convinced that they will make it interesting just like they did with Taycan

Just seen the projected weight. Its still going to weigh 200kg more and have not a lot of range.
Couple that with no gears, no sound, no vibration and you still have a joyless car.
They should use the new manufacturing techniques to save weight on an ice model.
