After 2 days of awful wet, windy weather, I was delighted to look out and see glorious sunshine for the last day of the Mid Hants Railway Pre Spring Steam Gala. Although the sun was shining, the temperature was around zero and the lazy, freezing wind made it feel more like 10 degrees below. Arriving at Ropley before the engines had left the shed was well worth the early start, conjuring visions of how a real engine shed must have looked in the late 50-s and early 60-s. Vast clouds of steam rose into the freezing atmosphere, edged in gold by the rising sun. The locomotives set off in either direction to pick up the empty stock that was to form the day-s trains. I met my daughter who was taking photos with me for day. With two dogs in tow we set off along the footpath next to the railway to capture shots of the trains climbing the bank from Alresford to Ropley. My shoes doubled in size as the sticky mud built up on them, after watching the first few trains of the day we decided to return to Ropley to catch a train up the line. We moved along the line one station at a time to record the day on film. The Mid Hants put on a first class display, join me for a day well spent, savouring the sights and sounds of steam, we even had a few snow flurries to add to the atmosphere. Got a little confused Tim. I perused the title quickly. I thought it said Haints!
In the Southern US the word Haint refers to a troublesome ghost or spirit. It is southern slang for haunt as in haunted.
However it becomes noun and not an adjective. We are a crazy bunch of Americans for sure. Irish, Scots, English mixed in with African Americans and now East Indians and Hispanics. All agreeable folks. We have a new group of folks who are not so agreeable. They are good at pissing everyone off.
Do I need to mention names?
Nope. mother would say I wasn't being sociable.

i can't help but wonder just how much of that smoky air our man Tim has inhaled doing these marvelous videos while standing up on overpasses! And I have an objections to the term -African American-, as posted below. How many different countries are there in Africa? Born elsewhere, does that make me a European American? Guess the real origins! Clue: Deutschland! Yes, European, to be sure, but specifically German.

Lovely early morning scenes on shed, and some interesting shunting at Alton. Nice to see a ride in the brake van; a ride in the brake van of the Goods up the hill would be interesting wouldn't it.
I trust it wasn't a problem at 21: 30?

Brought back a few memories when I lived in Winchester before moving to Melbourne, Australia. Thanks for posting.
