Figured I-d ask here since you or someone viewing are likely to know better than me. I live near Gothenburg, Sweden, and my boyfriend lives in Netherlands not far away from Amsterdam, he-s afraid of heights and has never been on an airplane, so when he-s coming here to visit he will be coming by train (at least initially, so, wise people: What trains would be the most convenient for us to look at for him to get from Amsterdam to Gothenburg? Preferably without having to change trains a million times along the way. While my town has train connection with Gothenburg, I will drive down to pick him up in Gothenburg to not have to worry about more connections and the fact that my town is small. Also a minor detail that could be relevant: my boyfriend is very tall (2 meters, so added bonus if the train alternative is somewhat -tall people friendly- so he doesn-t have to fold himself in half for all those hours of traveling. If he has to change trains in Copenhagen I already have a plan to book him for X2000 first class as I have personal experience with those trains (and that line, I-ve lived in Copenhagen) so the main thing really is which is the best way to get from Amsterdam to Copenhagen by train? Thinking both price, convenience, comfort and travel time here

Great viewing from here in NZ. where only Wellington and Auckland have a decent suburban rail system.
In the past 7 years, I have used mainly the 100 km long Wellington >>Masterton line ( ave speed +- 61 km/hr over 95 mins. The trip is city- suburban until you climb slightly up to the Tunnel-- all 8. 6 km of it, the a steeper gradient down to the the plain/valley and the remaining 45km. A pleasant relaxing trip with speeds ranging anywhere between 60--85 km/hr, depending on trackwork, and using ex BR Mk 2. E carriages. These have been regauged, of course, plug-doored, excellent lighting with 3 types at once, power points at every seat and Tables. much sought after. Not fast, but comfortable and clean, with very recently renewed upholstery. Very busy on the 3 -workers- trains morning and late afternoon, running from 6-9 carriage consists.

When will you put your trip of your ride to New Orleans from Chicago up? I believe that maybe you should take a trip on the Capital Limited and make a video of that, I know you went on the Cardinal and the scenery is breathtaking but I believe that the Capital Limited has it's own charm the problem is that most people post videos of their trips on that train from Washington to Chicago the train departs at 4pm and during the trip it's not much daylight time especially during day light savings time but going from Chicago to Washington you would see much the train does go through some towns that time forgot and and has some decent nice scenery that's it's charm so I really recommend that you do that trip from Chicago to Washington and show them that it can be a nice ride as well

are they still changing locomotives at country borders? I thought that was suspended with the arrival of the EU? My grandfather was a German locomotive-engineer who used to travel from Aachen to the German-Belgian border to meet the Paris to Berlin express, take it all the way to Berlin; and then take the return express back to the German-Belgian border, and hitching a ride on the next slow train back to Aachen. I recall my first trips as a teenager back to Germany, and how we stopped at every border and had the new country's agents check passports, etc. and how that had all changed by my last trip in 1993!

What they could do with is to have the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, just a single locomotive instead of three, and perhaps Denmark getting back into the spirit of the Schengen agreement. (Not wanting to start a political debate, mind) That would seriously cut travel time - perhaps so much so that a night train would no longer make sense. Or perhaps some of the responsibilities for railways could be shifted from the national level to the European level, because state operators resisting other operators is a common theme.

Uniformed officials waking you up the middle of the night demanding to see passports. Brilliant way to encourage people to use their service. Even before the EU, the sleeping car attendant would collect your passport before departure and keep it safe so they could do all that without disturbing you. Again I scent governments conspiring against making this a success. Or is closed borders, demands to see papers and uniformed officials bursting in on you going to be the routine in the new Europe?

Wonder if you and Seat 61 have seen Doc7Austin in the same inaugural train. Sad to say he bought it through a third party and hop in technically illegal with cancelled ticket. He defend his decision to hop in despite worries of a German police intervention.
12: 45 Doc7Austin was unlucky. He tried any card or Apple Pay but to no breakfast avail.

Can't wait for this line to be fully operational, hopefully with a stop in Hamburg Central as well (it's more convenient for me to reach. Imagine traveling from Hamburg to Stockholm and then from Stockholm to Narvik via night trains. Much more convenient than to drive that distance by car, and definitely more eco friendly than flying.

Me and my kids would love to do this trip. Catching the train from England to Stockholm when visiting my mum. Train from London to Brussels then train from Brussel to Hamburg and this would be the last change and it'll be fun to practice my German and a bit of Dutch as well. Swedish is my native language

You mentioned the age of the cars (or carriages. in watching Carlgo11's footage at 10: 49 I am struck by the reflection on the sides and how dimpled it looks. It's as if that hardware has been driven through years of hailstorms! Is that really how beat up the exteriors are beneath that new coat of paint?

I love Europe's night trains. When I did my frugal, three-month ramble around Europe in 1978 via Eurail, I often took night trains between two distant cities. That saved time and money. It's an area where train travel is far better than air travel. I would never arrive that rested flying.

Great video Thibault, & glad Mark was able to help you out. Looks like SJ have got a really good service there, & a quick search shows (delays & connection permitting) I could travel from my home station of Chesterfield (UK) to Stockholm Central in 24 hours & 43 minutes, all by rail!

Seeing some Germans without the masks on a train station & inside a train feels almost surreal--I thought they are bound to wear them once they get born and until they die. Did something happen to the deadliest virus in human's history that can only be kept at bay by the holy masks? ;)

The Fehmarn Belt road and rail tunnels, currently under construction between Germany and Lolland in Denmark, far more direct than the route shown here, are due to open in 2029 and will cut off almost two hours from the rail journey between Hamburg, Copenhagen and Swedish destinations.

Thanks for your video. It is good news that we can travel from Hamburg to Stockholm by train. I do not fly and need to get from Dublin, Ireland, to Lulea, North Sweden. The problem is, that I have to take my dog too. And it is a husky, quite a big dog.

Thanks for posting such an enjoyable video. The Orient Express train shows that carriages can have very long lives and still be clean and comfortable and, of course, the longer the life of a coach the lower the carbon footprint.

Nice to see the other operator. I returned yesterday from traveling to Stockholm with Snalltaget and Nightjet. Seems to be the same kind of coaches. What is this about not being allowed to drink own drinks?

How did you book the ticket? I keep checking DBs and SJs websites, but it won't let me select this train. It shows the connection but I can't buy it. This goes for any given day in October. Thx!

The night train to Hamburg is not a present phenomena it exsisted already in the 70's. But people usually forget as it always functioned impecably in connection to trains to Italy.

Sounds like a bit of a wheel flat on that coach. So it doesn't run from Hamburg HBF and you have to schlepp to Altona? Sounds like DB are doing all they can to promote it -
