we have 14 acres. Ive been clearing the 10 acres by hand with a chainsaw and nothing else. it used to all be pasture but 40 years of neglect and its now a forest with trees the size of my thighs and maybe 60 feet tall. so far ive cut down maybe 1. 5 acres. but man its hard work. especially with the invasive plant species in Virginia. poison ivy. sumac. and invasive vines, and other plants. its so much work. In my haste to cut down trees i accidentally cut down a pear/apple tree. i realized it the next day when i saw the fruit buds. tree was probably 10-20 years old. sigh. i found its pair 20 feet away. i hope the other tree can still produce fruit with 1 gone. Oh well, also found tons of raspeberyy bushes, and blue berry bushes, and i got my garden going with corn and 10 other vegtables. But boy. i know exactly what this man is going through cutting this stuff with just a chain saw and no equipment. I need to buy a good wood chipper though to get all these branchs out of the way.
I do plan to use the thigh sized trees i cut to make my own fencing though. they are all perfectly straight. the larger diameter logs will be the posts and further up the tree will be the -boards-. Im going to make old fashion fencing for my horses. i cannot afford these 15, 000$ qoutes for just 2-3 acres of fencing. so why not use what i have
