A hovering hummingbird burns energy faster than any other bird or mammal and it often lives just hours from starvation. Shauday: Sooo. Torpor allows them to cheat death by not starving to death when not actively searching for food. They say this in first 40 seconds of the video. the rest is just fun facts about hummingbird science. Which i now want to be a hummingbird scientist so i can deal with these wee birbs all the time.

Don't feed them!
They will steal your life away!
I started feeding a few with 12 oz that would last up to a week. fast forward to today and I put out 64 oz of food that doesn't last 24 hours! My free time is doomed.

Makes sense. Small things have smaller bodies and organs, meaning everything is fast for them (even death. But to cut energy to 1/50th of what they normally use is something I've never heard of till now.

I was in a cabin in Colorado once in the middle of nowhere. Held my finger up to a feeder. Hummingbird landed on me to drink. BEST THING EVER.

What does it all mean? .Hummingbirds are a delight both to the eye and to science.
Nice way to dodge the question. :)
