Chris Q absolutely proved himself as a high-level action movie director and I can't wait for him to come back with a different quality action movie.
1. He can smoothly handle working with a bigwig actor like TC when he, as everybody knows, can be very demanding, in a good way, in terms of quality of the film he's making.
2. He can handle the pressure coming from a big franchise film like MI and he came back even more HUGE the second time, which is very impressive.
That shows his composure, which is not common among directors when there is a ton of directors out there who can shoot a good action movie but can be tough to get along on the set. Well done, sir. I highly admire you and the whole MI team.

I listened to an interview with Chris McQuarrie on the Jeff Goldsmith podcast and the first 4) times they shot this the camera was out of focus.
They thought it was because Tom wasn't hitting his 3 feet mark but it turned out that the camera was still connected to a remote control held by another operator. So they got the shot in the end when the cameraman + skydiver realised the technical problem. Imagine how frustrating!

I was surprised to see how good this film actually was. A lot of the time I go into an action film expecting to think about whether an action scene would be plausible irl, but throughout this entire movie (lost a bit towards the end of the heli crash scene) I was surprised to be believing it all. And knowing that tom does almost all if not all of the stunts including the scene where he breaks his ankle.

I heard that Tom did this stunt, but Henry did not (he wanted to, but the crews said no due to his HALO inexperience.
my question is: if that shot was taken without a cut, then who actually jumped besides Tom Cruise? I can see Henry and there was no stuntman used as far as I can see

it would have been much more convincing if they didn't put that digital sky in there. so much of this was shot for real but because of the cloud and lightning vfx that REALLY LOOKED like vfx, it kinda made everything look fake. there were several set pieces in the movie that felt this way.

The movie is rubbish, it's not a movie but a collection of stunts that any stuntman could do as good as Cruise did and most certainly better. Why doesn't he become a stuntman and that's it.

I actually think the sequence in Paris where Ethan encounters Ilsa and finds out why she is hunting Lane is the most beautifully photographed sequence in the entire film, maybe even in the series.
