If you cant find the right lighthouse to fit your needs for your lighthouse movie, build your own. Thats what the director Robert Eggers and his crew did to make The Lighthouse, a period drama-thriller that stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. This scene includes a long boom shot that takes us from the base of the lighthouse to the top, where Dafoes character can be seen. In an interview, Eggers said that he and his brother, Max, wrote the shot into the screenplay. Then it was executed by the key grip Craig Stewart, who helped construct equipment with ropes and pulleys to move the camera up the center of the lighthouse. In this video, Eggers discusses how he achieved a dreamlike sensibility for the sequence by creating an elliptical collage of images and contrasting dark images with glowing light ones.

If it wasn't for the Twilight series Pattinson would be universally regarded as one of the most talented young actors working. Critics and people who know film seem to recognize his talent but for a large portion of the population he is only know as an emo vampire or a dorky dead wizard. I have admittedly only watched half of one Twilight movie and quickly realised that the series was not made for people like me but I acknowledged that it has its fans. I write this comment with such films as Cosmopolis and Happy Time in mind and tho' they may not have been commercial hits they're undeniable proof of his ability to carry a movie in an interesting and compelling way. He's had a few duds in his early career but he appears to have found his lane by working with innovative directors and so I'm always looking forward to a new Pattinson film because even if it's not great I know he will at least do something intriguing, and usually they're great.

Just WOW! What a masterpiece. This film should get all kinds of Oscar nominations. Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor (Rob and Willem were AMAZING. Best Director (Eggers was also brilliant, and the list shouldn't stop there!

Genius. On so many levels, I can already feel the darkness of this movie in this clip alone. Cant imagine how the rest of the movie will feel. Movie may very likely be somewhat of a beautiful nightmare

I don't see how this film doesn't get best cinematography, and I would hope best production design and many other awards. Whatever you think of The Lighthouse over all, everyone who worked on it went all in.

If you want to see a film where two men yell and drink for two hours and fight non stop this is for you. 1 out of 4 for me. Boring, low budget, and black and white.

Does anyone realise the way thomas wake look at the light as if he worshiping and submitting himself to the light ( like a weakened man crying for God )

Anybody know the toast that Willem Dafoe says before each dinner? Dying to get the script for this movie! His poems are legendary.
