My 86yo mom passed on June 07, 2020. Not covid-19 related. She had advanced Alzheimer's and I had to put her in a memory care facility in November 2019. I got to visit everyday and things were going ok. She would do arts and crafts, get her nails painted and sit by the gazebo and have lunch with me. Then covid-19 hit and the last time I saw my mommy alive was March 12th. We did FaceTime twice weekly, but not allowed to see her in person. On Sunday June 7th, I got the call she had passed away in her sleep. I feel the guilt this daughter has and more than that, the anger that my mom died, but not of covid-19 and the facility still refused to let me see her. I promised her I wouldn't put her in a facility and that I would be there with her when she passes. I failed to keep both promises. She had a lovely funeral on July 8th at Rose Hills. Bye mommy, I love you.

I usually don't get choked up, but I do on this one, especially when the family don't want to be apart, not being able to be constantly there for the grandmother at the hospital and then knowing she had trouble breathing during and dying in the care of others sometime after the zoom call.

Our secretary of homeland security didnt even know basic facts on COVID-19 in the beginning of the pandemic according to a Now This news video; with that mentioned, that just shows that the American government simply wasnt prepared for this crisis and its impacts on the economic sector.

This sort of situation is a medical professional's worst nightmare: having so many people with a life-threatening disease that you're forced to choose which ones you think you can save and which ones are too far gone and will be left to die alone. So sad.

My heart hurt so much when the EMS lift then strap her to the stretcher and she started feebly screaming.
May all the people affected by this pandemic, alive or not, find their peace.
