Elephant tourism often involves young calves brought up in captivity to lead a life of elephant-back rides and long days of logging in forests. But is there a way forward to benefit the animals and the humans who care for them?

My grandparents grew up in Thailand and made living to feed their family and they learn it from their parents. Its the way of life and it been pass down generations. We had no tools or forklift and we survived because it was the only way to make enough cash to feed our families. Dont get it wrong we respect elephants, just like how you keep your dog in the house to guard it and feed them whenever you think they hungry, its the same as us we need to do what we have to do to survived. But ridding elephants for fun? We didnt invent that. Yall know who Im talking about. Yall got no culture and try to force your ideology on us when we been working with the elephants together and made living just to feed our own family. Yall dont got no clue what its like, if the next meals gonna come today or tomorrow. When you turn 5 year old yall playing video games asking your parents to get you this and that we on the other hand have to make our own living. If you was at the age of 5 and had to fight the other 5 year old kid to make a living then Ill listen to what yall gotta say. I dont agreed with harming no animals. The way that we grew up Human life matters most. If yall wanna fix something, fix the way of the system. And before you help the animals help the human first.

So, _BBC, _ why are you not mentioning the practice of _PHAJAAN? _ This translates into English as ELEPHANT CRUSHING, and National Geographic reports on the use of nails and sticks stabbed into the ears and feet of an elephant, the subject of a crush, in Thailand. Other reports cite the use of beatings with sticks, chains or bullhooks, sleep-deprivation, hunger, and thirst to break the elephant and make them submissive to their owners. Feel free to look up what this means to young elephants according to the renowned co-founder of Elephant Nature Park, Sangduen Lek Chailert, and how traumatized they are when she has been successful in purchasing their freedom.
The wonder of it is, why was this not mentioned in this ridiculous, minimizing report by the BBC?

If elephants werent designed to be rode on, then when did horses adapt to being ridden on? Dont people use horses for carriages or farming? Its not like I disagree with horse riding or whatever, just wanted to point out a potential double standard.

When I was watching a Bondi vet video, he was in Kenya and the conservationists said that the elephant population is growing like crazy. So it doesn't jive with what this video is saying I'm wondering why

These innocent souls are beautiful, magnificent and intelligent! I'll be glad if all of them are freed from these tortures! They are not meant to entertain us! Those uneducated tourists should learn this

To make a true connection with any animal, you need to see their eyes. Riding on the backs of elephants only gives you a different perspective of the world, not a connection with the elephant at all.

I find it amusing how people cry over animals and their need for a good life, but they don't give two shits about billions of humans suffering every year by poverty, hunger, war, genocide.

Wow, I love elephants. But didn't know about this. Honestly, I feel really sad about them. And this is an amazing initiative, if we can have this here in india it would be great.

Anyone else think about all the jobs they've done that were necessary for our well being in caring for our families and think damn, I've been abused like these elephants also?
