In which John Green teaches you how the Civil War played a large part in making the United States the country that it is today. He covers some of the key ways in which Abraham Lincoln influenced the outcome of the war, and how the lack of foreign intervention also helped the Union win the war. John also covers the technology that made the Civil War different than previous wars. New weapons helped to influence the outcomes of battles, but photography influenced how the public at large perceived the war. In addition, John gets into the long term effects of the war, including the federalization and unification of the United States. All this plus homesteading, land grant universities, railroads, federal currency, and taxes. Check out the US National Archives Flickr. They have an awesome collection of Matthew Brady Civil War photography here: Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum re

Take note that no Republicans owned slaves and Democrats supported slavery or owned slaves in Northern and Southern states. Jim crow comes from Democrats. A hundred years later, president LBJ declared a war on poverty by a welfare system that helps the Democratic party to keep blacks on the Democratic party plantation with government handouts. Black still today not have freedom and equality. One cannot be free if dependent on government handouts.

Wow! Union cost for the war = 6. 7 billion. If in 1860 the US bought all the slaves and gave them 40 acres, that equals 3. 1 billion!
It-s understandable that this would never have been an option but you can-t ignore the shedding of blood to free men of their sins. Especially when the civil war killed more than all US wars combined

The civil war was a huge war of amateurs using obsolete military doctrine. Most of the tactics used by both sides were obsolete. Their weapons became obsolete. Total war was embraced by General Sherman.

When he said that part about America announcing that Lady Gaga would rule North Korea from now on I was like: -wait, did they? - And that's all we need to know about American politics

For context, in 2020 dollars, the Civil War cost 85 billion dollars. Vietnam, in 2020 dollars, cost about 1 trillion dollars. War has only gotten more expensive

To think about the civil war as the ultimate conclusion of the conflict between Alexander Hamilton's and Thomas Jefferson's respective ideologies is kinda crazy.

Gold and silver mining in the western United States financed the war for the Union. The Confederacy couldn-t pay their armies with real money

Italy didn't have that much prime ministers. It barely has around 60 now.
Also in 2013 Italy was 162 years old, not 180.
