In which John Green teaches you about the end of World History, and the end of the world as we know it, kind of. For the last hundred years or so, it seemed that one important ingredient for running an economically successful country was a western-style democratic government. All evidence pointed to the idea that capitalist representative democracies made for the best economic outcomes. It turns out that isn't the only way to succeed. In the last 40 years or so, authoritarian capitalism as it's practiced in places like China and Singapore has been working really, really well. John is going to look at these systems and talk about why they work, and he's even going to make a few predictions about the future. Also, thanks for watching this series. It has been amazingly fun to create, and we appreciate all of you

You mentioned Athens but you should have also mentioned the Haudenosaunee, aka the Iroquois League, they were the closes to a pure democracy, with everyone having a voice in political affairs or decision making at the local level, and the council of chiefs, though elected by clan mothers, made decisions and legislation through unanimous consent, the influence of the Iroquois and other Indian nations on US democracy was even acknowledged by Congress in 1987, really cool part of American history that is often ignored, would be cool if you make a video about it, besides this suggestion I really liked the video

can you, plz get real? don't you know how many people use that? don't you know it's only a tiny, tiny part? don't you realize you are from big city and well-educated while most aren't? it's hard for you to commit most people just couldn't watch this vid?
the problem that most people in china couldn't watch this, indeed, exist, and i am sad to see most those who can get beyond the wall just savor their privilege and pretend there is no such a thing as firewall

So no matter the government we-re just all getting played as citizens? I think I would still choose Capitslism as it sounds like you have a chance/choice at least to become an -elite, - whereas socialist and communist societies will off you for going against the government.
Hard to have corruption when you can-t speak out on it (hence China, North Korea with censorship and criminality on going against the governed.

Your statement of democracy not being the norm is not accurate. Most human societies were democratic until conquests removed the natural tribal relationships and allowed others who were not invested in the culture to exploit the conquered. Totalitarianism is an aberration, brought about by the destruction of natural human relationships.

Watching this just after China announced their new security law which undermines Hong Kong's autonomy guaranteed under the Sino-British joint declaration.

In the States, there isn-t any corruption in the government since corruption is legalized and has Name like political party funding or who knows what else.

In summary: China and United States' political system both have their ups and downs. Both can be extremely successful or screwed up, yeah.

300 million people in China live on $5 a day or less. For scale, the entire population of the US is around 328 million. So, no thanks
