OK. Maybe you would. But the lengths they have to go to to stock up for the winter will surprise you. When you see how carefully they arrange each acorn, you might just need to reorganize your pantry. You can learn more about CuriosityStream at Join Deep Look on Patreon NOW! I have three trees in my backyard and each has about a thousand acorn holes and about a third of them have acorns. The red headed woodpeckers are cute and fun to watch. Flickers on the otherhand sometimes mistake the fascia of my house for a tree and do a lot of damage, but since they are protected I can only yell at them when they start destroying my house.

The preservation system reminds me of how humans pressure can. Maybe the flavor isnt as nice, and your options are limited, but it gets you through the winter. And you always want to make sure it doesnt leak or have any gaps so it wont go bad! (If its not fully pressurized, just eat it sooner)

I like the way these weirdos are designed by the nature like you casually see them and see their black feathers and the red head and you automatically recognize Ah yes drill birb

Me: Okay, I guess ill watch.
Also Me: Hmm, they eat acorns, who would ever guess?

Animals are so adorable and clever at the same time, these guys even take in notice that the acorns don't get rotten due to moisture, that's impressive

I was reading somewhere: Wood peckers hit the wood with such a great force that if they do not close their eyelid the eye would easily pop out.

What does the extended family do when their granary storage tree is cut down? The tree has died and the locality will be cutting it down soon.

Mild disappointment in the title. I totally guessed what acorn woodpeckers eat. Another great piece of Deep Look content however.

I didn't know woodpeckers can eat acorns, flowers and sap. I thought they just ate insects rootin' around under the tree bark.

Okay but did y'all get my Aunt Phibian's permission to film her tho? If not then we're gonna have a serious problem.

Due to climate change, Acorn are in serious danger. In my city we can't see them anymore. People please be kind to nature

They also get into gang warfare with other woodpecker families. The Smithsonian has a good article about it.
