Originating in the hidden heart of Borneo, the Kinabatangan River winds its way for more than 560 kilometers - through soaring forests of fruit, past concealed limestone caves and across lowland riverine and mangrove forests - before feeding into the rich coral reefs of the Sulu Sea. We follow local wildlife photographer, Cede Prudente, as he captures the destruction, drama and diversity of life that the river supports in the hopes of raising awareness of the challenges facing the river system. Being used for trade, transport and communication for centuries, the Kinabatangan River is the lifeblood of the local people. But changing times have led to an increase in deforestation to allow for agricultural growth. In this series we meet the locals, conservationists and of course the animals along the way and explore the dynamic between modern life and animal conservation

The Dusun people are not headhunters. They were and are farmers and rice planters. The Dusuns, also known as Kadazans in some areas, are the natives of Sabah. The name Dusun is still used by the natives in a few small areas, like Tambunan, but those natives living in such places as Penampang, Papar and Inanam are now called Kadazans. The change of name was done during the time of Donald Stephens, before North Borneo was renamed Sabah. There are other natives in Sabah. They include the Muruts and Bajaus. The Dyaks of Sarawak and Kalimantan were headhunters and they did help to fight the Japanese during WWII.

I love the video, like I love all nature documentaries, but please in a next video either make the sound of the voices louder or kill the music completely. Now the voice is hard to understand. Thank you.

Everywhere capitalism is introduced, it creates more poverty than wealth. Ordinary people are forced to contribute to the environment's destruction when their traditional lifeways are lost.

I'd guess not, having him chained up so tightly, you know you're trying to help but he just knows he's scared, hurt, chained, and alone

I got to do a 3 day stay on the Kinabatangan in late 2013, it was truly magical. We finally spotted 2 orangutans on the last day.

Same old story. Humans land grabbing and so pushing out the wildlife. There are too many people in the world.
