Discover how alcohol impacts your body s processes and causes hangovers, and find out what causes the most common hangover symptoms. The molecule responsible for hangovers is ethanol, which we colloquially refer to as alcohol. Ethanol is present in all alcoholic beverages, and generally speaking, the more ethanol, the greater the potential for a hangover. So, how exactly does alcohol cause a hangover and is there any way to prevent one? Judy Grisel explores the surprising ways that alcohol affects the body. MrThatguyuknow: Succinic acid (amber acid to most) is by far the most effective hangover prevention and treatment out there. It basically halves how awful how your hangover will be. Nobody seems to know what it is in the states but It's really popular in eastern Europe and very cheap.

I have Crohn's disease. It's basically an autoimmune disease characterized with inflammation in the gut. Since alcohol can cause inflammation, that's why my doctor says I'm not to have too much alcohol (one drink with food in a blue moon is fine, but it's better overall to not drink at all. (Incidentally, I'm on blood thinners due to one time hospitalization from pulmonary embolism, due to Factor V Leiden mutation, and alcohol can also make your blood even more thinner, thus more liable for internal bleeding if I fall and hit my head)
So if I'm offered an alcoholic beverage in a situation that says one shouldn't refuse, I tell them, I can't; doctor's orders. Besides, I hate beer and wine, and margaritas are all I can ever appreciate when it comes to flavor.

This is a good video, but when the introduction states that hangovers are caused by ethanol there is no clarification that ethanol IS the alcohol in alcoholic beverages. If you're going to take the time to specify that the molecule is ethanol then you should also take the time to explicitly state that ethanol is alcohol, especially if you only refer to it as alcohol (and not ethanol) for the rest of the video.

Never had an alcoholic beverage in my life and don't plan on it. Not because I think any nonzero amount of alcohol is poison, mind you, I just don't get the appeal. I've been told pure alcohol tastes bad, and whatever flavoring the other ingredients give the drink I imagine I can also get in plenty of nonalcoholic beverages too.
Plus nonalcoholic beverages don't have to be consumed in moderation lol.

Can you imagine waking up feeling dreadful and having fish soup for breakfast? That's encebollado for Ecuadorians, it's that good. That's our main dead-awaker dish and if you call it just a fish soup, you're gonna get cussed at It has albacore, cassava, tomato, red onion, cilantro, chili powder, cumin AND CHIFLES (can not forget them.
I'll love to hear others country's remedies for hangovers!

I used to not have hangovers in college. But now, oh boy! There's now just a fine line between a chipper morning and puking my guts out. Luckily, I don't get the photophobia, headaches, and other symptoms with it, though. But even the G. I. issues alone sucks. I hate the feeling so now I just drink probably three times a year max on special occasions.

I'm guessing there might be more extra components besides ethanol and methanol. I once drunk 200ml (4%) of cider and got a horrible hangover. At the same time, I can drink 500ml (5%) of ginger cider and I feel perfectly fine already after an hour.

Pro tip: you have to wake up in the middle of the night and eat. You have to eat before you go to bed of course. And Gray goose is hangover proof if you don't go crazy. Just don't drink absolute. And don't go crazy drinking too much water

This is really disappointing. Gender is also one of the MAIN factors here, but since it is a taboo nowdays to mention any scientific facts about the difference between men and women, she just mentioned age and weight as the main factors.
