Dig into how foreign corporations exploit African nations like Mali for their gold mining, and often rob them of proper compensation. In 2020, Mali produced over 71 tons of gold an amount worth billions of dollars. But Mali saw only 850 million dollars from that gold. And this situation isn t unique: a number of other gold-rich countries in Africa aren t seeing the income they should given the price of gold. So, what s going on? Lyla Latif digs into how foreign corporations exploit African nations for their resources.

What is Mali? It's an abstraction. It's a government that gets away with saying they control a group of people. Just because these elites have pulled that mind trick off doesn't mean they have an inalienable rights to particular atoms from the Earth's crust near the surface they claim sovereignty over.
Look, if the gold belonged to Mali, the Mali would enjoy all the profits. They don't, so they NEVER owned the gold in the first place.
Don't get confused about what it means to own something.

What a shame. I guess it only takes one honest company to give Mali a fair shake and then Mali would get a nice cut. The problem is none of these companies are honest from gold mining in Mali to Fracking in Pennsylvania the contracts are all exploitation and scam and you can't do anything about it unless you have the capital to start up your own mining/drilling company then your likely to get assassinated by someone's Private security

This video tries so hard and blames corporations when the actual and only problem is the corruption within the government. Get rid of the government and you'll have no more corruption. Corporations are doing what they're supposed to: maximizing profits. Governments, on the other hand, have no reason to exist at all.

Gold is awesome metal. Scientists said that when meteoroid strike on earth gold made. Someone who try to get it have very miserable history like Tokyo. Who like money heist. When I watch this web series I literally made its fan the way which porfessor Sergio choose to heist 900 tones gold is awesome really awesome.

Sadly, reminds me of my home country rich with gas, oil, diamonds, minerals. metals, you name it. Yet a teacher earns 200 bucks (provided they work hard enough) and getting 500 bucks a month for any job is much better than average. Add to this poor healthcare, education, and environment.

I'm not surprised that huge multi-billion dollar corporations are exploiting poors, using legal loopholes and even straight up illegal methods to get all their money.
It's always been like this and until people don't start complaining on a national scale, things will never change.

This video should be redone with disclosure of facts. I m in the mining space and most of the things presented are just not true. Private small companies can do this stuff, but not large public companies due to regulatory and governance policies imposed by 1st world regulators.

In this era of Instant Digital Communications and Citizens Journalism if Western DemonsCrazy and Free (to loot) Market Economy or Crony capitalism has to survive then they have to yield to a Multipolar power sharing or vanish in oblivion

It's cruel and wrong and unfortunately legal. I think it's good that there's some attention to these subjects as gold isn't the only substance with which these practices are common. Hopefully something will eventually change.

My appreciation for the creativity of this animation aesthetic is rivaled only by my sense of I don't want to live on this planet anymore -ness from learning more every day about how messed up things are behind the scenes.

Depends on the time period and events going on in the world (war, inflation, banks, economies, etc. there was a time when knowledge was worth more than gold (peak of Alexandria. So what about now?

It is a shame people still take advantage of other nations when they run out of room to pillage in their own

I like the way some powerful people love to destroy someone else's lives just for their share in the profit. Seriously. I'm speechless (Yes, I am being sarcastic about liking this bulls t)
