In order to fight climate change, we have to reduce the general meat consumption, so just replace a few red meat meal by poultry or plant based dishes!
Plant based meat allows to reduce meat consumption without changing our habits! One can still have burgers, BBQ, traditional dishes (nearly) and reducing their impact on the environment!
Be nice and thankful to everyone who is doing their part in reducing general meat consumption!
If someone is vegan, they allows another person to eat more meat without increasing the general consumption. If someone needs to eat a few meals with meat every week, they are still doing their part.
Reducing general meat consumption will be good for everyone! By reducing the demand, we can lower the prices, so everyone can afford better meat!
Livestock farming has some benefits (animals eat grass, produce fertilizer) but a sustainable livestock farming can't produce enough to meet today's meat demand!
We have to replace intensive farming (where animals are stuffed in tiny places, eat cereals, have to be fed with antibiotics, produce too much fertilizer) with sustainable farms! Sustainable farms will produce less meat, but it will be healthier and better for the environment.
Most humans have eaten meat for centuries. But they didn't eat red meat every day. It was more like a few meat-meals a week, and mostly poultry. Red meat was only for special occasions!
I think it is a good way of thinking: Meat costs a lot, we should keep it for special occasions!

At 2: 46, the video claims plant meat contains just as much protein as real meat. This might look somewhat true on paper but is misleading. Plants have lower or significantly lower protein bioavailibility compared to meats such as chicken and beef. Not to mention, plants have significantly less variety and amounts of different and essential amino-acids.
Furthermore, for the same amount of calories, real meat contains more protein as a proportion per calorie ingested, so to get the same amount of protein, you need to eat more plant-based meat. I would very much call this more unhealthy compared to real meat.
I understand that it's trendy in some circles to look down on real meat for some reason, but I wanted to add this comment to highlight that there are very real and valid reasons to eat real meat and so long as you don't eat a steak every night and eat vegetables in general as well, you will be fine and healthy.

I think either way, moderation is key. To much of either is bad for the modern human body. At the end of the day, we'll all die bc of global warming so if you care about your loved ones at all we should all be eating less meat. That's just fact at this point, arguing about it just means you can't deal with reality. Even my great grandparents have 4 days of the week without meat and the other 3 days they buy from their local butcher who has his own small farm, so they know exactly how their meat was raised, how it was looked after and theyre supporting a small family buisness. I think that makes much more sense than buying at a chain store. I also don't think you're a good person in general for shaming or mocking others for their choices. I physically can't eat most meat, so I choose to be vegetarian to keep myself healthy and happy but I'm often teased for it and it's annoying.

And they left out the question of taste.
Well, not exactly, they brushed it off by saying that the plant based options colored red with heme tastes the same, but that's a bunch of bologna.
As for my verdict, I think out of all the options I have tested, only one I remember tasting like meat. I've had a few which did taste good, just not as regular meat which works for me as I am not huge on a lot of meats anyways, but claiming these tasted like meat is disingenuous. And of course, most plant meats where just awful, and I have heard that a lot of people that force themselves to be on a vegan diet, despite the awful tastes, tend to have their mental health deteriorate; another topic which wasn't touched upon.

This is a pretty decent video, but there are some points I don t like. Lumping together processed meats with non-processed ones is misleading in the same way that lumping carbs together is. There is obviously a huge difference between getting your carbs from extremely processed white bread compared to fresh baked bread, so why should meat be treated any differently? I also don t like the message about carbon footprints. Not to say that it isn t important to lower the amount of CO2 we produce, but the fact that the original idea for the carbon footprint was made by an oil and gas company. It shows that the concern was never to reduce the amount of CO2 but to move the blame away from large corporations and onto individuals

While these videos are good for educational and entertainment purposes, the discussion has become so politicized that I don't think it'll change many minds for those who hold beliefs on either side.
Most people don't have a strong stance regarding their environmental impact or the treatment of livestock; they just want a tasty meal, and meat tastes good. Good plant-based meat is also tasty, but it's generally more expensive than real meat. What truly will create change is when plant-based meat becomes affordable to the point where buying plant-based meat makes way more sense than real meat. Until we can reach affordability, there won't be enough people making the transition to make a significant difference.

And as much as the vegans want it, we will never get rid of meat consumption entirely. First off there are people who absolutely have to have real meat in their diet for medical reasons. Kidney disease patients are the first ones that come to mind. Plant based meats contain too much potassium, which dialysis patients cannot get rid of and will ultimately lead to their death from DKA. Second if we stop meat production entirely, what do we feed our pets? Dog and cats especially NEED meat to live a healthy life. Some pet can do ok on vegan diets, but the vast majority would die from malnutrition, something peta never considers when they go their misguided crusade to end all consumption of meat.

i feel one important thing always doesn't get mentioned with plant based meat alternatives vs meat
farm animals are able to be raised on non-arable land (which is about 83% of the land in the us) (or 60% world wide (after cutting out obvious stuff like glaciers and deserts)
while plant based alternatives actively compete for space with main line agricultural crops on the the 17% of us that is arable land (or 11% world wide)
so meat is making use of land that otherwise would be none productive and helps keep food prices down

Plants didn t store B12 in their body because they don t need B12 while animals stored B12 in their body because their body use B12. So eating plants alone will lead you to B12 deficiency. While some plants have small amounts of B12 in their cells, most of those are not fully absorbed because B12 from plants are hard to absorb by human body. Unlike B12 from animal meat, they re easily absorbed. And 1 more thing, fish oil. You can t get fish oil from plants as it s only available from fish and your body need them. So pick your poison

Why you guys didn't mention that often land that is used for grazing and growing food for animals aren't fit to grow vast ammount of crops? It's something vegetarians conviniently leave out.
Let's not also forget that land that is used for grazing, creates new biomes meadows that are rich in plant and animal species.
Also, doubt on carbon footprint. Most prominent vegetarian replacements use plants that aren't local and need to be transported overseas. thus nullifying any benefits that growing them instead of meat could have.

I hope lab grown and plant based meat becomes successful. I love meat but I still sometimes feel bad about it. It's not the killing animals parts for me, but how the animals are treated. I've seen cows and goats being tied to a very small area for hours a day. They are also social creatures and love freedom. So it feels sad to see them try to move but not be able to. And for their whole life too, until the day they're slaughtered for food. I'm trying to reduce my meat intake slowly, especially beef for this reason.

Nothing can replace a real piece of muscle meat but sausages, burgers and meatballs can contain much vegan protein without people even tasting it.
For me the whole art is to wonder how meat taste can be replicated. Which chemicals are responsible? I like moussaka and in theory, the minced meat can easily be replaced by vegan one which looks a bit the same but the taste is still very different. OK, the problem could be that it's a mixture of 1000 different chemicals and that 10 of them are not enough.

People don't want the real answer. cause its not meat, plant based or lab grown. its just eat less, more local, grow your own, use less. flight /distraction from self or life! . clothes, vacation, air planes, smaller houses, no pools, 2 or more cars, less chemicals, medication( cleaning, shampoo, hair dye, make up, and so on) JOMO self sustainable with more connection to each other But you don't have to take my word for it. either we will get there of there is no more earth.

I wish Tofu en Tempeh would be added to the comparison. I try to limit my intake of animal products to 1 meal a week because i'm not entirely sold on the fact that one can life a healthier life just being vegan. We have been eaten animal products for tens of thousands of years and it seems risky to be completely vegan at a young age.
However we need to do something for better health, climate animal welfare, so i hope the meat alternatives keep getting healthier and tastier.

It s funny because as much as you talk about the health risks of eating an unbalanced diet of mainly red meat and poultry, there are still Americans who insist on actually increasing their red meat consumption out of spite. How do you think the Obesity Belt became obese (BBQ and Soul Food? We don t have to eliminate red meat and poultry altogether. I d much prefer you eat a more balanced diet and still be able to enjoy real animal meat. Moderation is key

Either of the three options or just skipping beef once or twice a meal is better than eating bugs.
Personally I think we should eat more chicken. They produce less methane gases than cows, don't require you to tear down an entire jungle to make space for them, and are affordable and delicious fried, baked, shredded, roasted, or especially grilled.
All we have to do is to better the quality of life for chickens as well as we harvest their meat.

I do think that another important thing to consider is that the majority of our farmed crops are also being fed to animals. So as we reduce the amount of animal consumption, we reduce the amount of animals purposefully being bred into existence and further decrease the amount of carbon emissions being generated by animal agriculture. And at the same time, reduces the amount of land being used and pollutants being drained into our water.

Animal used to be sacrificed at the alter thousands of years ago because human thought they gain any kind of strength from a corpse, they don't. In fact, it will always be dangerous to consume a corpse, not only the acidity of the thing, but every possible sickness that could derive from a corpse is always a possibility. Animal gain their nutrition from plants, they are not transferred with the corpse, sorry, only pain and sickness.

Wouldnt call animal farts as pollution. they ate carbon containing foods and surprise, surprise, it needs to go out again.
And while plants need less space, they arent as dense in contents of essentials. and most of the water used for farm animals is coming from the clouds. Not always the case with greens. And ofcourse, while most land can support grass for cattle. not all can support more complex plants.
