The moon does not look bigger every single time it comes up it's only once in a while like once every few months I've noticed in the simple answer is just because of where the moon may be at on it's orbit. The moon comes closer to the earth at a certain point of orbit and sometimes it just happens to be at that certain point that is closest to earth while it's orbiting most of the time it orbits further away. The times it looks Huge is it's just orbiting closer that day at that exact location.

to throw another spanner in the works, if its our brain tricking us, how come a camera can photograph it? ,a camera has no brain and never lies. the other thing is the ponzo illusion always seems to need another object the same in view to be able to see the difference

The earth could be a disk or flat (convex earth. This could explain it. I studied this model and the more you delve into the flat earth model the more it seems plausible. Hard to believe I know. The ancient astrolabe wS based off a flat earth model.

The real answer is that the atmosphere is acting like a lens and magnifies the moon near the horizon.
Why do you see the moon near the horizon to be a lite orange color, until it gets higher.

I never think about that. and its really strange. I am live Italy and in the summer have a little weird thing. when be like midnight or 2 am. the moon look so big and orange

because the earths yearly travel around the sun isn't perfect. we get closer and farther away from the sun
