Comparative anatomist Joy Reidenberg studies the body structure of many different animals in the hope of adapting their unique qualities for human applications. Her favorite? Whales. In this TEDYouth Talk, Reidenberg explains how these majestic, awe-inspiring mammals fart with their face (a process more formally known as echolocation) to send their unique sounds through the water. Whales have no vocal cords, yet they make this sound, so she used the most reliable human reference. Yes, she could have said, raspberry or Bronx cheer, but those can both be vocalized. A fart cannot. Plus, farts are universal; everybody does it. Even prudes.

OMG I knew she looked familiar! She's on a show called Inside Nature's Giants. So different to see her wearing something other than that orange suit to protect her from the bodily fluids of her dissections. (:

She caught my attention, and I really enjoyed every part of this presentation except for the part where she showed the dead baby whale. A warning would prepare viewers who wish to not see graphic content.
