What If We Started Mining Asteroids?

Are the billions of asteroids in space secretly treasures? Space is full of treasures. Literally. If we were able to extract the resources from the rocks in the asteroid belt alone, we could give $100 billion to every person on Earth. What if we started mining them tomorrow? Could we restore all of Earth-s natural resources that we-ve exhausted over the years? How would this change space travel? And why haven-t we done it yet? Here-s what would happen if we started mining asteroids

Considering that only the richest countries and companies would be able to do this then yes they would run the world. It would be a claim system like the gold rush thing. Until even regular people have space ships this will have to do. As for terraforming them. that's. unrealistic unless you just have space stations in them. or laboratories or -gas stations- but it's probably more realistic to just mine them with robots with a skeleton crew to keep the robots running.

What if we build a generational ship?
What will happen to the economy and the government, when people have the power to leave the earth and find their own personal private planet in the galaxy.
Will people even want to deal with the bureaucracy and politics of a government? Will governments around the world collapse?
Ai is already effecting the economy, agi will collapse it, and interstellar travel will collapse the already financially streched government.

I think the solution with mining is to have the asteroid of our choice orbit around the sun, close enough to melt. Maybe a series of close detonation can help the asteroid make its way toward the sun, hopefully we can measure what speed and what angle it should approach the sun, in order to get it close enough to melt it thoroughly, if timed right we can have it get close enough to earth to orbit earth.

I don-t think it would decrease the market value of minerals here on earth, because it would still be extremely difficult to mine asteroids, every time we would want to start mining one, it would be a gigantic billion dollar operation. If anything the market value might increase on earth bound minerals because the mega corporations would move almost entirely to space mining.
reply

We could bring them to the moon and mine then there.
That way, we could mine them without having the possibility of an impact with earth.
They just don-t have to be too big.
And we could use manned robots (kinda like rovers mixed with satellites that we can move towards the asteroid and mine them.

We should speak up and have a planet terraformed. Or else we are just stuck in cunsumation currently. Besides the steady advance in technology I feel like we're wasting time. Also there are dangers in our constant life and relation to space launch so terra form right? (Bored comment but give your best opinion)

The only issue is extracting the material. You cant heat by conduction in space and drilling will just turn the asteroid into a dust cloud because of zero gravity. It will be very impractical transporting raw material to construction sites

Interesting share of this
Moon aliens are very advanced in technology n exploration of the universe
I am much inspired to understand your angle of seeing earth n the universe - much we can explore together.

Asteroids has metals like stone, silicon, iron, copper, phosphorus, titanium, tin, chromium, silver, platinum, gold, emerald and even diamonds.
Asteroids can help mars colonization because it can fill water.

What If we (as an entire human race) lived with the dinosaurs and were able to dominate them? What would life be like? What would that do to the future? How would it impact time both positively and negatively? -
reply

Why people wear this precious material as jwellery
As it can be use for scientific reasons for making life easy
Because no scientific improvements = life will be harder

reply

Or we can bring them somewhere close to Earth without crashing them into out planet so sending the rockets these will cost a but more less.
What about this idea?

I can see it now lol Hopefully this happens and eventually we'll use a special radar to detect everything about an asteroid!

We can't live on a asteroid, we can't live on the moon, and we can't live on mars none of these ideas are feasible or realistic now or in the near future
reply

We should use technology to create a prototype planet by fusing it once done, it will cool then turns to heat in the surface then clouds start to form
reply

It would be impossible since asteroids move way to fast to land in and stay on we would also probably get farther from earth if we land on it
reply

It's good in dream and theory, but in reality with many things to consider 7 generation of people dead will be faster than seeing this achieved.

How can one country claim all asteroids in any given area if that country has only come into contact with one asteroid in that area?
reply

No, we are not running out of anything. There is still huge amounts of minerals at the bottom of the oceans! Same for the poles!
reply

ik the answer to the 1st 30 seconds, it would RUIN the economy so a billion dollars won't be that much
edit: yes a was correct

reply

If we gave everyone money like that we would have huge inflation. People would be straving. We need to think of eachother
reply

Asteroids gave us life and can take it away as well by hitting us. Haha -I gave you life don-t think I can-t take it back-
reply

I thought that those metals need just be recycled not running our of unless your refereeing to needing more technology.
reply

Robots will do that in January 10th 2028 on that day robots will take over the Earth but humans were still exist
reply

This is literally what the billionaire in Don't Look Up thought of when he found out the asteroid has minerals.

What would happen if two planets, same size and half the distance of their orbit apart orbited the same star?
reply

Mining asteroids has titanium, gold, lead, stone, silver, platinum, tin, iron and even diamond and emeralds.
reply

No one can -own those astroids or make claim-. First come first serve, plenty to go around. Cant hog all
