It-s been dubbed The Great Video Game Burial of 1983, but did Atari really toss millions of cartridges of its biggest flop: E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial? Chris Kohler is onsite to witness an excavation of the landfill to see if the joke-s really on us, and to talk with those involved with the project, including original game designer Howard Scott Warshaw

The true story I found in my attic:
In that moment of time(whatever day it is, Atari knew that Sega and Nintendo will be taking over the video-game market. Atari did what it was best for their company, that is, to destroy all remaining cartridges, whether the game was good, like space invaders, or like ET.
But then the guys at Atari decided to just dump pac-man and ET. They needed to keep on surviving, but without games that suck. They needed those games to survive, and the only way to do that was the NES.
However, some people at Atari thought that Nintendo was not the right choice, and so they turned to Sega. Some joined the company, while others kept yelling at Atari.
At that moment, Atari was near bankrupt. A guy suggested they'd dump ALL of the remaining games and make new ones. So that's what they did. In the end, the games were thrown into the Pacific Ocean, in a crate. The crate has not been heard of since, but there was one remaining cart on the land. And it was. ET

It needs to be said, I loved this game. It saddens me that people hate on it. It was the first game I ever solved completely on my own. I was so proud and it left me looking for that sense of accomplishment again. Everyone had their first, this was mine.

lmao! I asked Zak if I could take a pic with one of the carts, and his literal words were -well since you asked sure. - so I took a pic with it, it was a fun day, ill never forget it. Still have the pic.

Microsoft can do this with those games that would have been something beautiful made by RARE but you guys know the rest of the story

In a couple of decades, the urban legend will be back again with the Constable Zuvio and Rose Tico action figures buried in a landfill.

First time in my 52 years I have devoted over 1 minute to anything involving video games. I have never understood the appeal.

This is the next proposed site for Disney when they bury all of the new Star Wars toys they can't sell.
