I can tell what's missing. The characters and levels lack personality and lore. There isn't the classical elevator scene, where the characters share about their experiences or backgrounds, nor do the levels provide you with any lore. If you played Control, great, every area is kind of a oh! I remember this! nostalgia trigger. If you're the only one who played it in the party, you are basically the lore nerd telling your team some cool trivia. But they game is doing shit to assist you with that or provide any meaningful insight. I played it yesterday for a couple hours with two friends, both never played Control and they liked it, but both agreed the characters are boring, all they do is complain about friendly fire (splashes of water trigger it too) and everything I thought was cool (sticky note monsters, return of the flying enemies in chair an without) had no meaning to them at all.
Especially odd considering how chuck full Control was with lore and that you're recovering the exact same papers in this one, yet you don't really get to read them in an in-game encyclopedia.
And the pop-ups giving you crutial information about team combos, weapons and mechanics could use a voice over, because reading them mid-fight can be challenging.
This is a lot of complaining, but only because I want the game to succeed. If it would address these points, I feel it could do so much better.
Oh and it should allow players to buy other passes with an in-game currency. Similar to Helldivers 2. Seeing there was a second requisitions pass in the game, but the only way to unlock was a redirect to a store front made all 3 of us shake our heads. Helldivers did set a very cool precedent. I WILL judge any game, trying to take inspiration from them, by these standards. Uphold them, or don't try to copy it halfhazardly for more money.

The game is good but not great its simple and a new concept idea for a game. The game however doesn't really have anything special about it. Level 1 all the way to 2 are pretty much useless after beating them. With level 3 you now have the whole area to play from start to finish. So there is no reason to ever play level 1 and 2 ever again. The mission is also lacking in gameplay. Doing the same missions is not fun. I think it would have been nice if they made level 1 to 3 their own unique objectives and long length missions. Level 1 you can beat in under 5 mins then level 2 10 mins, 3 under 20 mins. Really short and repetitive. The enemies are also soulless. Fighting the same enemies is not fun especially if the same enemies are all through 5 of the missions. They should have made each area have unique enemies to fight and make them different from each other. But other than that the game is fun but not really interesting enough to keep people playing. The player base will definitely be dead by the end of next month Unless they make changes and keep players interested. But you should still play the game try it for yourself. It's good but not great.

My friends and I are enjoying this as our break from live-service games and FOMO. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could've sworn Remedy said this was supposed to be a casual experience that we embarked on in between other games and life itself I've hardcore pushed the game and have everything done, but it's clearly not meant to be this way. They also said that they didn't want people to step outside of their genres, hence why they didn't include a story to beat. They didn't want people to have to jump into an FPS to find more out about the story, granted I would love a story too. For me, the game is exactly what I expected it to be. I didn't have high hopes, nor did I think it would be terrible, and I played the Technical Test Beta, which was still fun even. I think the game is being too harshly critiqued, but I do also understand some points people have. The game would definitely feel better with more randomized objectives to combat the repetitiveness of the jobs. They do plan on two major updates, so here's hoping the game gets better!

This game being a PS Plus/Game Pass title is a godsend. Currently, i think the $40 asking price is a bit much. It definitely has its issues, but i think its a good game at its heart. My main criticism is really just the player onboarding and the way the jobs are structured. Replaying the same mission 3 times to get to the cool stuff feels like a decision to artificially stretch out playtime. I am also not a fan of having your ultimate attacks locked behind progression. I think making a proper tutorial, revamping the mission structure a bit, and having those abilities available at the start would make for a better experience, especially for anyone new coming in. And unless its hidden somewhere and I just haven't seen it, throw some more bones to the Remedyverse lore fanatics.

I really am enjoying this game. Yes, I have been playing it in small bursts but with friends it's awesome. Remedy is definitely trying something new with this and I appreciate their effort. The Remedy Team has mentioned that they'll be adding more levels and content to it as the time goes on, so it's not like this is a one and done sort of thing. Yes, it's got it's quirks and some bugs, but it's not a huge deal for me.
I feel like for the most part, the people who complain about this game are casual Remedy fans at best. The hardcore ones like myself are gun-ho about this game, and appreciate it for what it is. I know that this game is an experiment but it's also maybe a way to pacify the fandom while they get Control 2 ready to go.

So it’s one of the games that will be better within a year or couple months from now. Kinda like broken record at this point. They keep releasing games that are unfinished and upload content as the time goes by. Too many of that in the industry. Problem with that is that there are constant games coming out and by couple months I’m probably going to be playing me a mix of some mafia, killing floor 3, mgs delta. Dying light. This reminds me of war hammer. Fun at first but was very short and repetitive. I got the platinum and haven’t played it since. Even tho there is more content now, that’s how I feel it’s going to be with me on this game, but hey at least I get for free for being on ps plus. Lol

I got into the closed alpha and beta and it was lackluster then, according to them it was an older build of the game we were testing for them (approximately 4 months older they said) but the general consensus of feedback in the private Discord was the same, too hard, not enough tutorials to explain things, no lore and lack of content.
Either it was too late into development for them to do anything with the feedback (unlikely with the alpha) or they just didn't care.
Rare big miss for Remedy imo, glad I played the alpha & beta so I knew it wasn't for me.

The onboarding experience is bad. You are welcomed to some menu's that feel like a mix of WIPS and programmer art. I can get behind limited or no tutorialisation personally, but pushing immediately into a game with zero real tutorial had the result of both of my team leaving the match within 2 minutes twice.
It feels so incredibly rushed and unpolished, and having no lore to be found or secrets to be triggered is just. not remedy.
I really hope they get it into a better shape, I just dont understand why it was released in this state

I got tired after playing it for a few hours at a time YOURE NOT MEANT TO PLAY IT FOR HOURS IN A SINGLE SESSION!
Nothing about the games marketing, USPs or interviews suggested that the game is designed for you to play it for shorter sessions at a time.
The game has not been designed for people to play for hours and hours and hours. They’ve been saying that SINCE THEY ANNOUNCED IT
It’s so annoying that people complain about getting bored when they’re not engaging with the game as it was made to be played.

For some reasons I was sure this game was going to be F2P and me and my friends were actually hyped for it. But then it's came out at 40 bucks. I have no problems with that but not with those repetitive and little content. Slso multiplayer games being F2P are easier for a group of friends to approach, then you can make money with pass, skins and all that optional stuff. I think it would have been better for the game. It's also sad it doesn't expand the Lore, that's the most interesting part of the Oldest House.

I feel like they've put down a pretty good foundation with the release and I think they're planning to build on it as it is their 1st live service game, but I really think they should put out a roadmap to get the players who do like the game something to be hyped for in the future cause as it there is only about 20-30h you can get out of it till you've seen everything. The gameplay is pretty simple but that wouldn't be an issue if there was just more interesting stuff to see and do in the levels.

I’m guessing you didn’t kick up the difficulty with max corruption with a 3 squad in comms. This game shines like no other when you do that. Nothing simple here. Incredibly frantic and strategic.
For what the game is, fps deep rock galactic (hell diver isn’t a good reference as it only feels that way when manually doing jobs, it’s great (and free depending. Only gripe is the slow progression. You unlock perks disproportionately faster than slots to put them in.

The game lacks content, and that's its biggest downfall. You've got 5 missions and a total of 15 levels. The levels only expand the area and give you more to do. I completed all the areas in 2 hours on normal difficulty.
There's only two other missions/maps planned to be released later this year.
This is the reason why game studios need to cook their game instead of releasing something bare minimum.
Also, the chair dudes are flying Stephen Hawkings

Even when it was first announced I didn't understand who this game's for. After playing the game I REALLY don't understand who this game's for. There's a sea of other games that do this type of coop better, more fun and a better understanding of Story. I feel like no matter how long I played I saw everything the game had to offer after only 2-3 hours.
It's not bad, it's fun-ish but for a paid experience it just doesn't do anything worth $40.

remedy fumbled this one. i dont see myself coming back to it at this point. since it's in the control universe why not just create a parallel universe where a timelines became distorted to the point where you can use any of the popular characters within the max payne, control, and allen wake universe where you can play as each character like max payne himself, jessee faden from control, allen wake himself, etc.

Was really disappointed in my brief time with this. Weapons felt weightless, enemies didn't feel reactive or even interestingly designed. It lacked the variety that DRG or Helldivers 2. I feel like this is more comparable to Darktide at launch, but that game (which is now definitely much more worth your time and money) always had much stronger shooting gameplay and an excellent melee system.

I saw an interview with Remedy talking about FBC firebreak and one of the Devs called it a Dad game. Not live service. Just jump in, play a couple rounds, hop off, come back in a few days or a week. And that type of game is refreshing. It doesn’t want to hog your time. But it will be good fun with friends when you get a chance to play it. And that sounds fantastic. Thank you, Remedy!
reply

I really hope Remedy keeps working on the game and eventually manage to turn FCB Firebreak into something really special. Right now it feels sort of basic and barebone, but this is just the beginning. I think it's a good thing that Playstation players can play the game for free (with Extra) because otherwise I don't think too many people would give it a shot.
reply

I had fun with my time with it, especially getting it free with my PS plus subscription, but I can't see myself going back once I've finished the jobs wish they had a narrative. Not a full blown story something more like left 4 dead they had a guy over the speaker he could of narrated some events and environmental story telling would of been good.
reply

Excellent Jake! You mention how you run out of new things to do before the best perks are available. Isn't this the exact same problem Fortnite had in the first month My recall is they fixed it by adding various new things, including completely new maps, weather events, etc.
